First of all, the positives. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The wifi worked. The lobby was pleasant and immaculately clean. The breakfast menu had six choices, even if some were rather odd. Do you know anybody who wants fish curry for breakfast? The pancakes were delicious. The location was pretty good, apart from the dogs issue, see below; it is conveniently situated between the main street and off a road leading to key attractions.

The number of 10 ratings for this property are a bit silly, but you may have noticed the suspicious frequency of 10 ratings for Sri Lankan guesthouses that name check the managers and staff. White House is a decent guesthouse, but it is not a 9 or 10. Some of the factors that bring it down are beyond the control of the owners, nor am I judging it by European standards. The sockets in the room were very hit and miss. One of the walls could have been cleaner. There appears to be no daily cleaning of rooms because the bed wasn’t made. There was no hot water one morning. There are dogs in the area that sometimes bark loudly. This is not the fault of White House, but it is not great for tired guests.

Gute Lage

Auf dem Moskitonetz haben sich Staub, Flecken und tote Insekten der letzen Jahre gesammelt. Das Badezimmer war alt, nicht sauber und viele Ameisen waren hier zuhause. Toilette war nur nutzbar, wenn man die Duschtüren geöffnet hat - sehr eng.

Habitaciones e instalaciones súper limpias. La ubicación era genial. A unos pocos pasos de restaurantes y ocio. El personal súper amable y el desayuno muy completo.

Por decir algo, pero esto es cuestión de gustos, la ducha tenía poca presión. Nada terrible ni mucho menos, volvería sin pensarlo.

We hebben echt genoten van ons verblijf in White House Ella. De locatie is perfect; dichtbij het centrum maar toch niet lawaaiig. De eigenaren én personeel zijn supervriendelijk. Het hotel is goed onderhouden en oogt gezellig met zitjes beneden en boven. Kortom, super!

Family-run property in one of the side streets meaning it’s calm, quaint and has a very personal feel. Owners are very kind and attentive. Good showers, there is a small fridge and tea station in each room. Monkeys walk past balconies on electricity cables. Very clean

Internet / wifi is rather slow in morning and jn evening.

Ich hatte einen tollen Aufenthalt im White House. Die Familie war sehr herzlich und das Frühstück richtig gut. Auch die Lage ist top, mit dem TukTuk ist man in ca. 10 Minuten vom Bahnhof beim Hotel. Das Zimmer war eher klein und eng aber als Alleinreisende völlig ausreichend. Ebenfalls hatte ich einen Balkon, was ein zusätzliches Plus ist.
