Jua House

What a fantastic place. I was here 12 days as a solo traveller. Felt at home and also super safe. Breakfast is amazing, staff very kind. Amani and the team are the best. Thanks for the wonderful time.

Staff is absolutely amazing, the place is really nice and the breakfast is very tasty.

Very clean and spacious room Tasteful decor Friendly and professional staff Mini library Fridge Lounge area Involvement of the local community to provide meals Donation box for Lamu's donkey welfare Emphasis on sustainability- caution on use of water and electricity Proximity to the beach Panoramic views Tranquility

Slow WiFi Flies in the room Late start for breakfast. There should be an option for an early breakfast, even if it is no frills Overhead fan was noisy Staircase is steep No electric kettle in the room

Jua House is a rare place that genuinely feels like a guest house rather than a hotel, it is warm, unpretentious, and thoughtfully run. The sustainable touches throughout the property feel intentional and the whole space has a kind of quiet ease to it that I didn't expect and didn't want to leave. The rooftop has the best view for sunsets! But honestly, the staff are what make it. Amani went so far above what any guest could reasonably expect: showing me hidden corners of Shela, helping me navigate the village, arranging trips, and making me feel genuinely looked after. As a solo female traveller, that sense of being in safe, caring hands made an enormous difference to my experience. Thomas was consistently communicative and unbelievably accomodating throughout the booking process and stay. If you're weighing options in Shela, you should just go ahead and book Jua House. I haven't encountered hospitality like this in a long time, and I left already hoping to come back!

Nothing to not like, truly!
