The Carpenters Arms

We were looking for somewhere to stay around Newbury, and came across The Carpenters Arms purely by accident. What a find. The pub itself is quite small and dated, but that is all part of the charm. The locals were friendly and welcoming. The restaraunt, dining area was modern and spacious, the food and service was excellent. The accomodation is seperate from the pub in old refurbished buildings, and was lovely and comfortable. The owners and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. All in all a thoroughly good night was had, and we will definately be back again. We have already recommended The Carpenters Arms to our friends. As an aside, if you are looking for dog friendly accomodation, look no further.

Everything went very well. we were pleasantly surprised to see the breakfast included in the cost of the room.

I found the mattress a little hard although my husband was fine with it. On the whole everything was fine.

We visited Highclere Castle so the location was perfect. The staff were brilliant Jamie, Scarlett & Lucy, all excellent. Comfortable bed. Food was lovely, we had evening meal & breakfast. The evening menu was a bit limited, posh pub grub, some strange combinations, but what we had was nice.

The room was very small, bathroom door was like a barn door. The wardrobe & desk appeared to be made of scaffolding & wood, nothing in the room matched, windowed door leading outside so we were on full view to the carpark unless the curtains were fully closed, also the door wasn't that secure. Could do with some TLC, or a woman's touch maybe.
