Thotalagala

An absolutely spectacular location, with breathtaking and truly awe-inspiring views stretching across the surrounding mountains and valleys. The hotel itself is also charming: a former British colonial-style bungalow, beautifully decorated and full of character. There are several lovely lounges where you can relax, read a book, and enjoy a cup of tea while taking in the extraordinary surroundings. A truly special and unforgettable place. It is also perfectly located for visiting Lipton’s Seat, exploring the tea plantations, and discovering the beautiful region around Haputale.

The biggest disappointment was undoubtedly the food, which was nowhere near the standard one would expect from a hotel of this category. We found it very disappointing. The service, although the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, also lacked the level of professionalism one would expect from a five-star establishment. We also found the prices charged by the hotel for intercity transfers and excursions to be completely disproportionate. The rates were significantly higher than what we would consider reasonable for these services.

The view is magnificent. Staff helpful. friendly and efficient. Tea plantation tour very special experience. Excellent meals.

Es un hotel maravilloso y recomiendo, encarecidamente, coger todo incluido y no perderse la experiencia de LIPTON SEAT que fue espectacular...solo por el trayecto de ida y vuelta. Y por supuesto la fabrica de TE que también fue muy interesante

We booked two nights in a junior suite, the room was well appointed and the bathroom had a large shower. I had expected a bath as it does say that all suites have a bath, but other info suggests the junior suites don’t, so some confusion perhaps based on the descriptions on booking.com. Anyway the Manager was very accommodating and was able to provide me with a room with a bath. The staff at Thotalagala are wonderful, so attentive and very friendly. We ate our meals with the other guests at a large dining table, this was such a lovely way to meet new people and share stories about our trips, sharing recommendations was really helpful. Our all inclusive package included a trip to Lipton seat and the tea factory so interesting and the Tuk tuk ride was such good fun. The food is exceptional. Also included was a high tea which we ate outside, prior to sitting down you take part in a yea tasting activity to ensure your choice of tea is perfect and it was. The sunrise at Thotalagala is wonderful as our the views. At night the team pop hot water bottles in your bed and provide a selection of well-being teas and hot water in your room ready for when you return. All these little touches added to a wonderful experience for us we highly recommend this hotel.
