We loved everything about Limen Matera from the exceptional interior design to our conversations with our outstanding hostess, Paola. Limen Matera is well located for walking access to the upper and lower city. We parked our car in a free public parking lot behind and spent hours wandering the beautiful streets of Matera.

We loved everything-even the vigorous climb up the stairs to the fourth floor!

Most attractions, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance from The Limens. Private parking is strategically located opposite Limens at reasonable rates. Limens property is kept very clean and has a very modern & comfortable feel.

Paola is an exceptionally dedicated and highly cultivated landlady who will give you great advice on the area, restaurants and things you can do and provide great entertainment during breakfast 😀

Everything about the property is great, its location and beautiful view on Matera from the breakfast room and one of the sleeping rooms (which we were lucky to rent). Be aware of the fact that there is no lift).

What I loved most was the host, Paola. Furthermore the location, the stunning views, the deco of the rooms and the apartment, the fabulous, savoury breakfast!

The location was perfect: minutes from the center and loads of food options, at the same time it was easy to park in the street. The owner was very friendly and accommodating, especially with the arrival time. She is also a huge fan of Pina Bausch ballet, so we had a lot to talk about, since we come from Wuppertal. Breakfast was excellent: we loved the fresh focaccia and the pasticciotti. She also got us a bag of Easter eggs on Easter day. We didn't have the room with view on the Sassi, but we could enjoy it from the living room balcony. A perfect stay.

Unique, charming and full of character, Limen exceeded our expectations. A spacious, architect designed home with many charming and interesting details, it really has a personal touch. We walked everywhere, and the sassi are just moments away - the view over the Sasso Baresano from the apartment is incredible. We enjoyed both our room and the lovely communal lounge, which made us feel like we were living in own stylish apartment in this fascinating city. But best of all was the owner Paola, who is an absolute delight. We shared many wonderful conversations and big laughs, and despite the fact that we booked a rate without breakfast she still had a delicious warm cake straight from the oven waiting for us when we arrived, served with espresso and an insistence that we finish the cake during our stay (which, of course, we did). She then made a special trip back on our departure morning to say farewell and bring us fresh baked potato focaccia. We highly recommend Limen for a unique and personal stay, full of character and kindness. Grazie Paola, alla prossima!

Great owner Paola speaks very good English, gave us great suggestions of places to visit and dine at and she served wonderful breakfasts. The apartment is stylish and comfortable, conveniently located, with great views.

We liked the host very much, because Paola is great fun. She spoke English well and told us some very funny stories. The room was cosy, clean and warm. The breakfast was varied and the location quite close to the centre of this amazing town. When we come back, we are sure to stay at Paola´s. I look forward to it very much.

The room and facilities were great, lovely English speaking host who offered very helpful advice and provided wonderful breakfasts. The location was perfect with views of the gorge and Matera from the balcony. I can’t reccomended Limen Matera highly enough

Everything was perfect.

Paola is the real star here! She is such a gem, she takes the time to speak with you, share information, answer questions, and really makes you feel like family. She is one of the best hosts we had on this trip to Puglia and the Basilicata, but probably one of the best hosts in general. I chose the room with a view of "old" Matera (i.e. the sassi and the high plains), which made for an outstanding view. The room was comfortable and spacious, with a large bed, nice linens, and the unique feature of a bathtub with a built in sound system that is bluetooth activated. The room receives bright, natural light, and there is a small balcony if you want to step outside (looking straight down was a little terrifying though!) Breakfast was excellent. Paola works so hard to bring a unique touch to the breakfast table, offering a different focaccia every morning, as well as new pastries. The breakfast was quite abundant and also featured the usual offerings (local Materan bread, cereal and yogurt, fruit, etc). I can't say enough about how attentive she is to details--she leaves a tea/tisane out during the day and it was always so tasty. She claimed to simply blend a variety of teas together and add honey, but I don't think I could do that with the same level of success. Paola also offers excellent local restaurant tips and helped me greatly on where to park the car close by for free. As numerous reviewers stated, Limen is on the third floor, so there are stairs to climb! However, that came as no surprise having read the reviews before traveling. Also, if you plan on going to Matera, you should be prepared to walk a lot regardless. One note of caution: in the bathroom the blinds are on a pulley system held up by a magnet. One day I pulled too hard and the magnet fell off. When I tried to reattach it accidentally pinched my skin. I only blame myself, but since not everyone will be familiar with this type of pulley just be sure to pay close attention.

What did we like most? What didn’t we like! Room is excellent, AC working very good. Room was spacious. Breakfast was excellent (good choice of things and more than enough). The location is only 10 min away from ‘downtown’ and parking wasn’t an issue. Paola gave good instructions. Best thing? Okay, that’s Paola the owner. She is so friendly, welcoming and enthousiastic. We spend quite some time with her chatting about many things. It almost felt like we knew her already many years. We definitely recommend Limen Matera.
