It was a beautiful and comfortable room.

I wish our bed could be made up and room cleaned and towels changed. But we only stayed two nights so it didn't impact us too much.

Torrington Hall is a lovely restored older building. The location is very good though there is a bit of a walk uphill to get up to the center of St. Alban. The check in directions were clear and worked as noted. The entry way and hallways were beautifully decorated with some gorgeous wooden period pieces. Our room was St. Albans on the second floor. It would not be suitable if stairs are a problem or if a guest had a lot/heavy luggage. Fortunately we had only carryons. The room was a good sized, nicely decorated and once the window was closed, any street noise was blocked. There was also a stand-up fan in the room which we did use when the window was closed. The bed was very comfortable. There was a nice selection of coffee, tea and hot chocolate plus a small fridge. A hairdryer and iron/ironing board were included as well. There were two upholstered chairs in the room that felt like a big hug when sitting in them :-). The bathroom was very modern though it had its quirks (more below) and the water pressure was excellent. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but next time would look for something closer to the town center.

As mentioned, the bathroom was a bit quirky. There was no outlet in the bathroom so any hair drying happened in the other room which is not ideal with wet hair. The mirror in the bathroom is hung very high up - my husband is 5 foot 10 inches and could just barely see enough of himself to shave. At 5 feet, the only thing I could see was the top of my head. It would be much more useful if the height was lowered. The mirror also has lights on the outside rim. When the mirror was fogged (i.e. during a shower), it would flicker on and off, probably due to the condensation. The pedestal sink in the bath has a very small basin. We ended up removing the drain so that it wouldn't overflow when we washed our hands. There was a second mirror above the fireplace but it is also very high up so is more decorative than useful. It would have been nice to have a full-length mirror - we were there for a wedding celebration and having a more accessible mirror for putting on make-up and checking clothing would have been helpful. Apparently there are also longer term residents in the building and on one day, there was a group of people meeting in one of the downstairs room. It was fine but it would have been nice to know before hand that this is a multi-use building.

Nice location to the place I was attending, nice room, bed etc. The response from the owner when I contacted her about the issue below was very prompt and apologietic, thank you.

The room was not ready when I arrived i.e. still not cleaned from the previous occupant(s) stay despite me arriving after the 2pm check in time. The owner (?) was contacted who very quickly attended and organised for cleaners to attend as well as directing me to a downstairs shower that I could use, not ideal, but was better than waiting for the room to be cleaned so that I could shower and get changed. Unfortunately this still meant that I was delayed in attending a friend's memorial service missing many of the speeches.
