>Very nice traditional house.
>Great host (you should order dinner there, she is a really nice cook, we ate a fantastic meal!)
>Great location in a small village in front of the sea, next to the beach where the turtles lay eggs (we saw 2)
That we only stayed one night

Great location - Nagata was a perfect area for getting away from the crowds. It’s close to the beach and a secluded valley. I felt like I had an authentic stay in a traditional Japanese home - using the Japanese toilet (which didn’t smell at all) and sleeping on futon and tatami. The host also prepared the bath for us and it was really nice especially after long hikes. Coffee and tea were provided, and the washing machine was also a plus.
The listing is accurate and gives enough heads up about the house - it’s old, there’s insects, the toilet is very different to western countries, and it’s far from the main attractions. These would be things that would be negatives but they are also things that I also expected. One thing would be the shower/bath room, the shower uses a solar heater and it was very temperamental, it would get super hot then super cold, but of course it may be a given since it uses the solar heater.

Traditional house with lovely hardwood interior. We brought our own charcoal in so we could use the sunken hearth Irori to grill food. The futon was very comfortable.
The place is remote and buses are infrequent which means it does require planning. We decided to rent e-bikes from Miyanoura and rode them up to the accommodation based in Nagata, at a leisurely pace this is two hours.
We liked the wood fire bath at the place which was lovely. Would highly recommend to those who are punctual
and enjoy staying in an older, traditional house.

Owner was very helpful - picked me up when I had car trouble. Very nice cottage. Pot bath was very interesting and relaxing. Near Yoggo Valley and Inakahama Beach.

The host was very welcoming and kind, she makes the most delicious food too! It was a great and unique experience, staying somewhere that celebrates nature, where we can experience a more eco friendly way to live. The host also kindly gave us bread for breakfast from her cafe and prepared a bath for us at night time. I hope to stay there again!
I don't think there should be any improvements, it was a really great stay! The only thing is, is that you my find some dead or living bugs, but the host had told us that before us staying at the hostel, so I expected to see more bugs than we actually did. And it is part of the experience in staying in an old style house.

This old house allowed us to experiment the old Japanese life style. Ecologic wooden house with dry toilets, old Japanese bath heated by a wooden fire, big room for doing dance and yoga. Free tea and coffee. Small and warm coffee shop. Breakfast was amazing ! Continental excellent breakfast, with soup, salad, fruits, omelette with mushrooms, fry vegetables, different kind of breads, oranges jam, all home made.
Dinner was like high chef cuisine : veggie with all ingredients coming from the organic farm of the owner. Everything was delicious and delicate. It was a typical Japanese meal. The owner is kind and delicate. My best souvenir for one night in Yakushima.
The house is lost in a small village, but it is calm, a river run next to the house, we can see the mountains and the sea from the room.

It was one of a kind experience I have to say. During the pandemic, the host only accept one group per night and since I was a solo traveller it was a little spooky at night. It was really dark all around too. The house is very well-maintained. Not sure how I felt about all the photography exhibits in the living area but that's okay. Traditional style toilet literally does not smell, amazingly. Cast iron bathtub was too hot for me but it was a nice thing. I think if you come in a group would be very fun.

If you want a peaceful, nature stay, this is the place to go. It is a beautiful old property and the owner is very kind. The breakfasts and dinner were also some of the best I’ve ever had in Japan!

I love old wooden houses. Very comfortable and cozy.
Gave a good experience of some old japanese customs
Essential equipments like kettle, shower, stove, utensils were available.
The host was very warm and caring. On each day of our stay, she gave us breads to eat for free from her cafe. Breads were delicious! She heated the old bath before leaving, and the bath was great! She was also quite responsive on contacting via messages.
Finally, the surroundings were pretty and very peaceful, just what we were looking for. It was especially great in the early morning hours.
The posters and decoration items in the lounge area were interesting and very artistic, but however their theme felt too philosophical and gave a dark vibe to the house. It made us feel a bit uneasy. The lack of sufficient lights further extended this uneasy feeling.

Breakfast was good with special local foods.
A small dead cockroach swam in the bath...unfortunately I washed my hair and body and took a bath after I noticed the cockroach. Even worse, because it was rainy day, shower did not work...
Owner was not friendly and even her children did not even say hello when I said so.
