Location is great. View over the ocean is lovely.
Arrived to a building site. Under full construction as of Jan 2024. Perhaps by March/April 2024 it'll be one of the better hotels on the strip. Only time will tell.

Die Unterkunft war leider eine Baustelle. Uns wurde zwar vorab mitgeteilt, dass es Arbeiten wegen einem Wasserschaden gab. Es glich aber einer Baustelle. Morgens um 7:30 Uhr mussten wir darauf hinweisen, dass wir im Urlaub sind und gerne ausschlafen möchten. Ab 8:30 ging es wieder los. Das Frühstück mit toller Sicht im Garten wurde hierdurch ebenfalls stark eingetrübt.
Zu dem Preis ist es nicht hinnehmbar und war der große Minuspunkt der Reise.
Getränke am letzten Abend gingen aufs Haus.

I stayed for 5 days in february.The location was perfect, directly on the beach. One night we saw a big turtle comming up on the beach ! My room was clean and well maintained, had AC, MOSQUITO NET, hot water shower and wiifii that actually WORKED.. The staff was very nice, friendly and efficient. The restaurant had local food on the menu as well as european. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options!! Everything I ordered was very good and well presented. Breakfast was delicious. Sri lankan bread, jam and jelly and a choice of eggs, french toast , curd, pancakes, roti and dhal, coffer or tea and a fruit plate. The hotel also had a pizza oven, a sweets corner and served cocktails. They also provided a laundry service. I highly recommend this hotel and I would love to stay there my next trip. The hotel also arranged a car to drive me to the airport and gave me a packed breakfast.
Service in the restaurant was on "Sri Lankan time" a bit of a wait some days, but always exellent when it arrived. having the kitchen upstairs and the waiters having to walk up and down the stairs with food and dishes propably was the main cause of the delay.

Exceptionally well placed location, is on the beach- you can sleep and wake up with the rhythm of ocean waves- astonishing views and food (especially sea food platter, breakfast) was delicious- the property was little bit old but well maintained and clean. The staff and owner was cooperative and friendly. You'll not regret staying there- good value for money!! Highly recommended.

Gorgeous colonial feel with wooden floors. A big room on the first floor overlooking the sea. Big ensuite, good quiet aircon and a handy safe. Great wi-fi. A big long verandah to sit and hear the waves and sip a drink after a lazy day on the beach. Its set at the eastern end, last on the beach, so away from the sometimes busling cafes and restaurants. I stayed 4 nights and would have stayed longer if I could. The owner and staff were great, so welcoming and helpful.

The location is very nice, right on the beach and you can hear strong waves at night. You have a terrace shared with others and the restaurant has a beautiful view in the beach. Breakfast à la carte was very good.
The room needs some refreshment, so it feels cleaner and more cozy. It is very simple and quiet dark (no windows, the light comes only from the door to the room).
It is a hotel, so not the same hospitality as if you would stay in the guesthouse (but staff is helpful)
I find the price a bit expensive to what is proposed in this place.

The location is perfect. Right on the beach and far enough from the beach party going on some nights in some restaurant. The rooms downstairs are big and comfortable. I extended my stay for a room upstairs as I wanted a really quiet room, that one was a lot smaller but cheaper too. Beach towels are provided. Internet is very good and there is a generator for full time power supply. All the staff is amazing and they really do whatever they can to help and make you happy. Big thumbs up to all of them !
In the first room upstairs, the mattress was too soft for me and the towel clean but old and stained; the lovely housekeeping staff changed it immediately on my request. I visited again a week later and had another room upstairs with a perfect mattress and towel. I would suggest the owners of the property to invest in more new towels and to check the mattress in each room to make sure all of them are still up to the standard and the price. ;)

Stuff is friendly. Room is clean.
Full of russians. During our stay we didn't meet any other nationalities exapt russians. We were lucky to leave this place after 2 days and we found an amazing hotel far from busy areas. So, if you don't wish to spend your holidays among rude, drunk and full of attitude people try to awoid this hotel and Unawatuna beach in general.

Great seafront location next to the main beach and cafes. Varied and tasty breakfasts. Friendly staff. Generator. Sound of the sea.
Our room was simple but worth it. Old bed linen and towels, better to bring your own. However there are free beach towels.

Location was just perfect. Breakfast was good.
Very limited selection for the inclusive breakfast. Could be more to choose from particularly as I enjoy filter coffee which is charged extra.

you wake up everyday with sound of ocean, it is really wonderful! staff is extremely nice and helpful. the rooms are clean and with great design. we loved also our balcony!
some lights were not working, sometimes bugs and lizards came intro the room - but it was not disturbing at all!!

The stay was simply wonderful! Super friendly staff (five stars to Florence!!), great breakfasts (especially the fish curry), right on top of Unawatuna beach with direct access to it, we even took dips every day in the sea while we waited for breakfast. We loved it!

We loved to stay at the Sun and sea hotel! The building is nice located at the seaside and the building is very stylish with colonial flair. The food was really excellent and the staff very friendly!

We booked the family room. It was huge! There was a king-sized bed, plus 2 twin beds. There was also a sitting area plus tons of space to move around and store our luggage. We had a view directly over the ocean and just walked through the restaurant for beach access! It was beautiful. The housekeeping staff were amazing - friendly and very attentive to our needs. When you're on a beach vacation, a lot of sand gets traipsed into the room; but each time we left the room, someone asked us if we'd like it swept up. The restaurant was also amazing with delicious food, amazing service, and both Sri Lankan and western choices on the menu. We typically do not eat in hotel restaurants, but we ate all of our breakfasts (included) and half of our dinners there!
The location very good - right on the beach! However it was a bit far from the central tourist area with shops and restaurants. It was walkable but the sidewalks in Unawatuna are almost non-existent so with our children, we often chose to take a tuktuk rather than walk on the busy streets. It was a only a 5 min tuktuk ride so no big deal.

Amazing location as this is the only hotel on this side of the beach, so you have the beach view for yourself. Really friendly staff there and the rooms we had were huge and really comfy. Best spot for our last day as you are really close to Galle and all the beautiful beaches around. Highly recommended :)

Very cozy, clean room, beautiful sea view, beach at the exit of the hotel, delicious food, one of the best hotels in Unawatuna
We lived on the ground floor, the kitchen was probably located above us, sometimes noise was heard

Located right on the beach, so very good location. Best area for swimming was about 200m walk. Restaurant served some of the best meals I've had during my 20 day stay in SL...very tasty! Also best breakfast selection I've seen here. Rooms were good, fairly standard. Hotel is located right on the main road, but I never heard any road noise as the rooms faced ocean side and sound of waves blocked it out. Special mention of Florence the cleaner who took great care and pride in her job, and regularly checked in to make sure everything was ok.
