Romantik Hotel Markusturm

Travelled as a family of 4 (2x adults, 2x young boys) staying 2 nights. Rothenburg is simply beautiful! The hotel is well located, a short walk away from the market square and shops. It complements the area by remaining inkeeping with the history of the local area, however, our room was light, bright and modern with the expected necessities. Comfortable beds, and we enjoyed our own enclosed private patio for a drink in the evening. Breakfast was reasonable though limited choices to interest our children. I would recommend trying the bakery a few doors down for fresh crossants instead. We did The Nightwatchman Tour (with the original tour guide - pre his retirement), this was a great way to learn about Rothenburgs history, very entertaining, inexpensive, and short enough walk for kids.

Parking in Rothenburg is tricky as such you need to drop off suitcases at the hotel and a valet takes your car to a off site carpark, which is a little walk away. This meant a few back and forth trips for different items. This is not specific to just this hotel and is reflective of being in an historic area.

Perfect location, excellent historic hotel with good breakfast and friendly staff. Valet parking was a bonus.

Bathroom drain smell

The rooms were huge and tastefully appointed. The bathroom was also large and modern. They had cooling fans that worked like a/c. Our rooms faced a side street, so very little foot traffic and with the windows closed, you couldn't hear anything. They are a pet-friendly hotel which also has two resident cats! Don Corleone (who we never saw) and Cappucino. The staff was so friendly and went out of their way to ensure a wonderful visit. I have reserved rooms for during the Christmas Market directly with them, too. The breakfast was copious and an excellent deal: 10 euros per person and included eggs three different ways (scrambled, hard/soft, sunny side up), a basket of local assorted rolls, jam, butter, cream cheese, charcuterie plate, smoked salmon on Sundays, yogurt with berry sauce, sunflower seeds, berries, cereals, a little piece of cake during the weeks and delectable mini heart waffles on Sundays. Tea and coffee and orange juice are also offered. It's family run and they take pride in their home. It was truly a lovely experience and I'm excited to show friends the beauty of Rothenberg ob der Tauber and this hotel. They even park your car for you, which is a huge bonus; only 12 euros to park per day. They are just two blocks from the Rathaus and Marktplatz, so you are close enough to be near everything and yet far enough to get a good night’s rest.

Great location. Very close to the center of the town. The hotel is in a beautiful old building right next to an old city tower. Inside of the hotel looks like a museum with lovely courtyard.

Unfortunately the room feels dusty even though it’s clean. Old furniture has place in a museum but didn’t feel comfortable.
