Visiting Sanbona on our honeymoon was the best idea. We got to see so many incredible animals up close, and every game drive felt like a new adventure. Seeing these beautiful animals in their natural habitat was truly unforgettable. Our room was beautiful and spotless, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious. A special thanks to our guide Romeo for making our game drives so memorable and for sharing so much knowledge and passion with us. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Everything was just perfect from start to finish. A truly unforgettable experience and the perfect way to start our honeymoon.

Absolutely loved our stay at Sanbona. Having previously been on safari in the Serengeti, I wasn’t sure how it would compare, but Sanbona absolutely hit the spot. The reserve is enormous and we loved that the animals are completely free to roam. Jordan, our guide, was a huge part of what made the experience so special. He was incredibly knowledgeable and his genuine care for the reserve and its animals really came across. We felt throughout that he went out of his way to give us the best experience possible. We had an unforgettable encounter with elephants who came right up beside our jeep, as well as an incredible interaction with cheetahs. Very special moments that we’ll remember for a long time. Everything was so well organised and everyone we met was genuinely friendly and welcoming. We had three rooms for our group and they were all beautifully presented, with stocked fridges and snacks included. Lunch on arrival was delicious and breakfast was also excellent, with a really good choice. A fantastic experience in a truly beautiful place.

We had three rooms but only one was lucky enough to receive the little chocolate treat. A very minor issue, admittedly, but it did cause some chocolate-related jealousy amongst us! Unfortunately dinner was the only genuine disappointment. We all agreed that it didn’t quite live up to the standard of everything else during our stay, which was a shame as the lunch and breakfast were both excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at Gondwana Lodge and would highly recommend it. The lodge has recently been renovated and is absolutely beautiful — the current photos on Booking.com really don’t do it justice (see current ones uploaded with this review). Our room was stunning and the whole setting felt very special. The highlight was our game drives with Nicole, who was fantastic. Her knowledge of the animals, their social behaviour and Sanbona’s conservation work made the experience fascinating and genuinely exceeded previous safari experiences we’ve had. We would definitely recommend asking for Nicole if you can! We also drove ourselves to the lodge in a two-wheel-drive SUV and had absolutely no problems with the drive in. A magical experience and somewhere we would happily return to.
