Perfect location in the heart of Nara, just next to the pond where the Moon Festival was taking place and 52 steps from the historic Buddhists halls. The ryokan has two onsens: a public and a private one. We were lucky to use the private one. The rooftop terrace is great.
The futons are fine for one night but they are not the most comfortable sleep. We thought we'd get a shared bathroom but actually what they mean as shared is - shared for all in the room, so our room had it's own bathroom and toilet

This was our first ryokan experience, and we couldn't be happier that it was here. Asano-san looked after us wonderfully, explained everything we needed to know, and we were even invited to a tea ceremony held at the neighbouring hotel to mark the festival.
The room is spectacular, and its private onsen overlooking the lake is beautiful; we enjoyed the festival from there.
Both Nara and the ryokan were wonderful experiences.
The staff speak English, so the language barrier is not an issue at all.
Thanks to Asano-san and Isuni-san, our stay was truly delightful!

Staffs are polite.
Booked a room stated shared bathroom meaning No bathroom in the unit itself which make ridiculous.
