Mad Cat Hostel Osaka & Bar

I stayed here about two years ago with some friends and had a blast. I came solo this time, and was a little apprehensive that it might not live up to my memories because of it. What a fool I was. Mad Cat is an absolute joy to stay at and it's a very large part of why Osaka is my favorite city in Japan. You can really feel the love and passion put into this quirky little bar/hostel/cat café by Rieko and the staff (shout out to my guy Yoshi). The vibes are immaculate, the beds are comfy, the cats are cute, and the people are chill. Stay here and you won't regret it.

One of the most social hostels I have ever stayed at. The location is in a quieter part of town but easy enough to reach. The beds were super comfy AND having a kitty shaped icecube in my whiskey at the bar was awesome. It was also cool to have locals pop in for a chat as well, really made me feel welcomed. Thank you so much for everything Rieko, Yoshi, Tim, Oscar, Kosei, Kogo & Maru <3

Friendly staff, good location, welcome/free drink each day, decor/coziness of the space, and the cutest, softest, sweetest cats ever!!

Tiny bathroom upstairs, but all the facilities and staff were great

Bed was very comfortable and the area has a relaxed suburban feel. The two cats were cute.

The location was really challenging for me. It's about 10min walk from a station which isn't so bad but then another 15mins to train to the city centre. So that's an extra hour of commuting daily if you are wanting to see the main tourist sites and attractions. The hostel is also quite small so there's not a huge chance you can meet people to hang out with for your stay. Adding to that, when I was there, most people were nice enough but they were quite independent travellers so just in case it's probably best if you're happy to be an independent traveller too. Also there was one toilet upstairs for all the dorms to share which was usually occupied, and when it wasn't I couldn't actually use it because there wasn't enough space to sit lol... But the toilet downstairs was normal and showers were good. And there wasn't too much space in the dorm room (4 person) for luggage so you could only open one suitcase at a time and most suitcases needed to be stored under the beds when not being accessed.
