The Chequers Inn

We had a family room for just the two of us, King size bed and a sofa. Highlight was the bathroom, large room with a shower and a corner bath. Staff are all so friendly and helpful. Food choice is varied and tasty. Would definitely recommend this place, especially if you want an central location from which to explore the whole island.

Pillows for me a little too hard and we had noisy room neighbours, slamming doors (obviously that's not the fault of the pub, just spoilt one night's sleep). Whilst the welcome folder was very comprehensive, it was out of date. It mentioned breakfast was included, which it isn't now and a couple of other mistakes. Minor issues, but found little else to complain about!

Excellent food in the restaurant. Plenty of variety on the menu. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Room 2 is a small cosy room with double bed. Not a lot of floor space.

Location, food, cleanliness, playground for kids, comfortable bed.

Room was very small and cramped which meant that moving around was awkward. Bathroom was similar with a tiny basin with a shelf above making it impossible to avoid water falling onto floor. Maybe room should just be advertised as single and not double. Breakfast was good and breakfast staff were friendly. However one member of bar staff made us feel uncomfortable after we had had an especially difficult day involving a visit to A&E on the island. We had booked a table online at the last minute for dinner as had left the hospital at 7:30pm. And my daughter mentioned the 6-hour visit to A&E to staff member by way of explanation but there was no acknowledgement of this; instead we were informed that we would have to be quick to order as kitchen would close in 7 minutes. This made us feel even more uncomfortable and was the last straw frankly and left a not too favourable impression on all of us after a day which had been long and fraught. We will not return.
