Vatican Plaza

The room was clean and nicely decorated, although a bit tight for us 3 adults. I really liked the welcoming corridor, which I have come to appreciate in contrast to other stanzas (guesthouses). The location is close to Via Ottaviano, a highly busy commercial boulevard, however it’s quiet while providing access to a metro station and walking distance to the Vatican museums

The system works on the basis of an automated entrance system that makes you highly dependent, as if that’s even possible, to your fully powered cell in order to enter the building, then enter the guesthouse, and lastly enter the room. This system is spreading quickly in Italy, so not much you can do there other than pointing to traditional hotels or bed & breakfasts

Room very nice and quaint.

The room was very clean and the host was super friendly and responsive. They were very accommodating, storing our luggage and even letting me come back for something I'd forgotten. The building felt secure, and it's an easy walk to the Vatican and lots of great trattorias. The complimentary water was a thoughtful touch.

The building itself was easy to find, but once inside it has a very small, old elevator, and it wasn't clear which floor to go to or where the room was inside. You'll want to be in touch with the host for those details, though their quick responses made this a minor issue!

The room itself was very comfortable.

Prior to our trip, i sent 3 separate emails inquiring about being able to drop our luggage upon arrival but prior to check in. Never got a reply. I had also indicated, as offered in their correspondence, that we desired arrangements to pick us up upon arrival at the airport. Again, no response. When we arrived at the building, we pushed the button on the front of the building to gain access: the person who responded only spoke Spanish and we were unable to arrange entry until later after reaching our contact person. When we finally got into the building, we found that the “hotel” was on the 5th floor with access by a very old elevator. There were no instructions posted on how to access the elevator (it had a locked steel mesh door). Last item: we did not realize that checkout was at 10 AM: we had already arranged for a car to pick us up at 11 AM to take us to the cruise port, so we had to wait outside the building for over an hour until our car arrived: note that I am 79 years old and my wife us 74, standing for long periods is a challenge. We’ve travelled quite a bit and this experience was not something we’d want to repeat.
