location was super!

We had to pick up the keys in Lacanau which is 12 km away from Carcans. As we had no car and the public transportation system is poor, this was difficult, took much time and costs for taxi. The same was for bringing back the keys. Without car too complicated.

Rented an upper level flat with balcony. The positive aspect is the location very close to the beautiful beach and to local shops. We were three adults.

But the flat itself, advertised for between 6 and 8 persons (one double room downstairs and two bedrooms with 2 single beds upstairs + one folding bed in the small living space) would be totally inadequate for 6 adults. The upper two ‘bedrooms’ are in reality under the roof and one cannot stand up in them. The ceiling height in one of them is 1.80 metres but only for less than a meter in width and then it falls down to zero at an angle and the other bedroom is similar so basically you have to bend or crawl down to go to bed… They are barely suitable for small children. I doubt very much they comply with regulations in being defined as ‘mansard roof bedrooms’. They are accessible by a very steep stair (almost a ladder!). The flats are very basic in comfort and facilities. When we arrived, the flat was not very clean, there were old mattress protectors with hair on them on the beds and the shower tray had black mould around it. There were many things missing (only 2 forks and one knife for example for cutlery), no toaster, etc. Most of the storage furniture is broken and inadequate and even one bed upstairs was dangerously dismantled and coat hangers in the bathroom falling from the wall. Staff at the reception were helpful. They do their best to deal with the situation and they eventually supply some of the required stuff but basically it is run on a shoe string and one would expect better for the price. It is run by Estivel and they claim on their website that they provide ‘l’esprit d’hotel’ (run like a hotel) with high quality management of holiday flats but the reality is far from this claim
