Sukau tomanggong view bed & breakfast

I lived the staff, everyone was very helpful and kind, the guide was fabulous and we saw all the animals on the best spots. Everything was very safe and well-organised. We did 3D2N and it was perfect. We had 3 meals and they were good. There os a small restaurant nearby with snacks and food.

Maybe the poor-maintained sink and toilet because there was a small problem with flushing but it was bearable and ok :)

Posizione fantastica per le crociere sul fiume, lungo il quale abbiamo visto una miriade di animali ed uccelli. Bello anche il piccolo villaggio, fatto di poche case ma con abitanti davvero accoglienti. Abbiamo gustato la cena preparata presso l'abitazione di una famiglia del villaggio, la quale ci ha fatto sentire davvero a casa.

La colazione non era particolarmente varia, ma data la location è pienamente giustificabile.

We had a fantastic stay at Sukau Tomanggong View Bed & Breakfast. The accommodation itself is simple, but it is exactly in line with the description and very good value for money. Our room was adequately clean and comfortable for the price. What really made our stay special was the staff and the guides. Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful and always available to assist us. They went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. For example, when elephants were spotted in an area that could only be reached by car, they kindly offered to take us there so that we could see them. We were also very lucky with the wildlife sightings during our stay and managed to see all the animals we were hoping for, including elephants and orangutans. Of course, sightings can never be guaranteed, but the guides were knowledgeable and clearly very committed to helping guests have the best possible experience. There is also a restaurant just opposite the B&B, which we found to be good and very affordable. Overall, we highly recommend this place, especially for anyone looking for a simple, authentic and affordable base for exploring the Kinabatangan River. The kindness and availability of the staff and guides really made the difference.

If I had to give a couple of suggestions: I would add a bedsheet underneath the duvet and replace the towels, as they are a little yellowed.

The food was excellent, and they adapted very well to my vegetarian diet, which I really appreciated. One of the highlights of my stay was Jaidi, one of the guides. He is very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, and his expertise made the excursions genuinely interesting. I also really appreciated the fact that the excursions were organised in small groups, which made the experience much more personal and enjoyable.

The accommodation itself is decent and functional, but quite basic, and I found the overall cleanliness to be average. Some basic amenities are also missing: there is no hairdryer, which is particularly inconvenient in an area where it rains so frequently, and no shampoo or conditioner is provided, only a bar of soap. The main issue, however, was communication and organisation at reception. Communication with Hana was inconsistent: messages were answered irregularly, and information about shuttle departure times and excursions was often limited or provided too late. At times, I actually received more useful information from other guests than from reception. For example, I only found out through other guests that there was an opportunity to organise an excursion to try to see the elephants. This was never proactively offered to us. When we asked about it, we were told to find other guests ourselves in order to form a group, rather than reception informing interested guests and coordinating the activity. My biggest concern was the handling of payments. Payments made during the stay were not accompanied by receipts or written confirmation at the time of payment, as we were told receipts would only be provided at the end of the stay. With several activities and separate payments, this makes it unnecessarily difficult to keep track of what has already been paid and what is still outstanding. As a precaution, I had to make sure there was a written record myself after every payment. In my opinion, every payment should be properly recorded and acknowledged when it is made. Overall, there are some genuinely good aspects, particularly the food and the quality of the excursions with Jaidi, but the poor communication, organisation and payment management made the stay unnecessarily frustrating. With a more organised and transparent reception service, the experience could be significantly better.
