The location is fantastic and we liked learning about its grand history.
Some parts of the hotel feel like they have slipped from grandeur to budget. As we were looking for budget friendly, this worked for us, but some of the bloom is off this rose.

Old hotel with a fascinating history. Adjacent to train station. Had a washing machine in kitchen.
Musty smell. Old taps in bathroom. Kitchen no utensils or microwave at least.

This is a REAL hotel. An old fashioned place with fine sweeping staircases. The room was fine and spacious and quiet. The bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was not the “Breakfast included” that Booking.com boasted. It was a miserable “continental one. Anything cooked was an extra tenner.
Service was ghastly, tables bare and barely cleaned. It was a DIY greasy spoon cafe. Such a shame.

Breakfast room was amazingly old and food was fine. Lovely breakfast staff.
Bathroom was falling apart, curtains need washing. I understand it is old, but it is as uncomfortable looking at.
