Markos is an amazing host; genuinely kind, hospitable and caring. The building, the rooms, and even the surrounding area feel truly special and authentic. Just spending time in the apartment itself is enough to make you feel refreshed and like you're on a real holiday. Breakfast is wonderful—Markos prepares a delicious meal using the freshest ingredients. The location is also excellent, just a short walk from the sea and the central streets lined with tavernas.

Ahh Idili, where to begin? The only place I think i can begin is with the host and owner of Idili. Our now lifelong friend Markos. When I called before we had even landed in Crete and spoke to Markos to arrange a special touch for my partners birthday I could tell that his hospitality was second to none. I said to my partner that we were going to become good friends and that is exactly what happened. Markos provided a very special birthday surprise and was attentive to our needs and made sure everything was perfect no matter the time of day. If you have booked to come to Idili you are in for a real treat. If you're reading this and you are trying to decide whether to book Idili or somewhere else, do yourself a favour and book Idili, you will not be disappointed. The accommodation itself is stunning. It is incredibly clean and best of all very traditional. If you are as lucky as we were, Markos may show you his photos of how the guesthouse used to look and how he has gotten it to its incredible standard today. The location is also a huge benefit as we were within a minutes walk to a super market, bakery, restaurants and only a further two minutes walk to Panormos beach. Crete already had our hearts, but Markos and Idili captured them even more. It is not a question of whether we will return but a question of when we will return to see our friend and get to once again experience the highest level of Cretan hospitality. The only thing that would make our apartment better would be to add some of what makes Crete so beautiful. We picked some Bourgenvillea (the pink flowers that are everywhere in Greece) and had them in a vase. Some of these flowers climbing the walls would set the terrace off incredibly. We also take fairy lights everywhere with us and I draped them over beautiful beams above the terrace which gave it the most beautiful intimate lighting. Festoon lights would be another incredible addition to the space. This is not a complaint as it wouldn't have ruined the experience at all, but knowing Markos and his eagerness to please his guests I would be surprised if the changes weren't made and it would elevate an already amazing setting.
