Hotel Dom Henrique - Downtown

The room was very large and had a nice sized balcony. The bathroom was also spacious. We liked having the sitting room apart to just chill out at the end of the day. We had a view over the city hall tower which was nice. The restaurant has a great dinner menu. Would not recommend eating outside as there is no really great view and there are lots of smokers (unless that's your thing!) The location is good as you are a 4 minute walk to the Bolhão market and metro station. Getting to the river will take about 25 minutes, mostly downhill. It's a good "living" area, even though you aren't in the heart of old Porto.

The hotel is a little old and tired looking. Carpets look a little worn out and in general it could use a refresh. The bed was a little firm for our liking (we generally prefer firm but not that much!) I would say the staff were "okay" but they were they seemed generally less interested in engaging with guests than at other places we stayed. If you want to be left alone, this would be a positive. The breakfast was okay, but we just stuck to simple foods. I would opt out of the included breakfast as their are great cafes nearby to catch on your way with much better food. The bar area was very dated looking as well, and service was slow despite a service button right on the table. The seating arrangements are supposed to be communal, but don't really work for couples or large groups either. Despite this, I still think I would come here again. Remember you are there to see the city, not live in your room. But at the end of a long day, it's nice to crash somewhere comfortable and this was spacious and easy to call home.
