Grand Hotel Excelsior

The restaurant : Very good food with vegetables and really excellent meat and fish ; important to keep every evening the Basmati rice = very simple and natural food. The cakes are good but too sweet; they would be much better with less sugar. The room is perfect, but the The décor would benefit from a bit of a refresh and a lighter look. The location is perfect, close to the old town and the swimming pool on the water, quiet and relaxing.

Hi, some 3 Very IMPORTANT suggestions : deck chairs with wheels as it's VERY NOISY at the swimming-pools when people move their deck Chairs . Put trees at the swimming-pool to get a REAL _ Plant trees by the pool to provide REAL shade—cooler, natural shade, COOLER than parasols. Create a pedestrian crossing at the hotel exit to cross Siege Road, which is very dangerous with not enough visibility about the cars which arrive quickly.

We choose the hotel beause of its location. Room was spacious and we liked the balcony. My husband appreciated the shuttle service to the top of the road very much as there were a lot of steps. The food in the main restaraunt was very good and the service too and the Tiki restraurant by the pool was very nice. Good choice of food and drink at breakfast. Helpful staff

Very busy and the tea arrived often lukewarm at breakfast. We appreciated to be able to have a meal from the buffet on the first night as our flight had arrived very late, however, there was a lot of food to choose from but it was not always very hot. The hotel is a bit frayed around the edges, but we had read about this before we left and it did'nt bother us very much, we were also aware there were no sockets to plug our phones in by the bedside tables, but again, that was no problem. There were only three lifts which seemed strange for such a big hotel.

At breakfast, the service was very mixed. My husband was ill so I had to go down several days on my own and I felt quite ignored and had to really get attention to get tea.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable. Location was good. Nice to sit in the bar listening to music. Shuttle service up to the town was very useful.

The hotel is in need of modernisation. Our room was very dated, including the bathroom. The aircon was not that good. We did have to ask several times for things like milk, coffee, face cloths, soap etc or the bin to be emptied. The outdoor swimming pool area was in need of care and attention - there was a lot of grit from the tiles and the pool itself was very slippery in places. The steps leading to the sea were also rather dangerous. The position of the room was at the back end of the hotel, opposite a road and we could hear traffic in the early hours (5 -6 am). The chairs in the bar looked like they were stained in places. For the money that we paid, I would have expected it to be in better condition.
