ROMEO Napoli

Probably the best hotel (5 stars) around the port and old town, in so far as much of Naples is torn up and going through a renovation. The location enables you to walk around the historical area. No need for a cab. The hotel is brand new and comes with the latest technology (which can be irritating at times). We are still on the fence as to whether all this state of the art technology works as it is intended. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. You can pair your smart phones with the TV to watch your own movies, etc. The restaurants at the hotel probably have the best food in the area. The breakfasts that come with your lodging are fantastic. We also dined three times at the rooftop restaurant (once for lunch and twice for dinner) and really enjoyed the casual servings offered there. It’s fun to watch the large ships come in and leave. There is also a pool up there and lounge areas. While we did not dine there outside of breakfast, there is a Michelin rated Alain Ducasse restaurant on the 9th floor that offers glorious views of Mt. Vesuvius and the port (similar to the rooftop restaurant one floor up). The staff is friendly and accommodating.

The room, especially the bathroom, is small. There is little space for storing clothing or arranging your toiletries. We felt the wine menu was overpriced. 25 Euros for a glass of Chardonnay. Bottles of white wine ranged from 100 Euros to 300 Euros. That said, we are spoiled by our great Napa and Sonoma Chardonnays that are more reasonably priced back home. There is an interesting bar in the lobby. Unfortunately, it was never open during our three night stay to sample the drinks or the ambiance. There were some discretionary charges on my final bill (approximately 180 Euros). Not sure why they do that. I told them that I tipped generously during our stay (which I did) and had them remove 147 Euros from the final bill. BTW the only other time I have seen “discretionary” charges on a bill was recently at a resort in Cabo.

The quality. Breakfast ala carte was great. Super gym for sport people. Swimming pool on the roof exceptional.

We had big problem with electricity. The lights was turning on for whole the night awakening us. The next day it was luckily solved. The big surprise was that to rooms for 4500€ was added without asking and permission 229€ to bill. Later when I started asking what is it about, appeared that it’s not obligatory and can be removed. But first the staff asked me to pay that amount on checkout bill with other positions. It was very not elegant. In my country that would be considered as theft attempt. Not acceptable in hotel this class and price imho.

Nice rooms, very friendly staff, great location

went in off season - wasn’t informed of works at the hotel, which meant the pool and bar were closed. First time ever, had a service charge added to the hotel bill! Not for drinks or food but for the room.. should have questioned it, but in a rush, so didn’t….
