Fantastic Stay – Our Favourite Location in Sumba We stayed at Rua Beach Resort and absolutely loved it. While it is officially a three-star resort, don’t let that put you off. The rooms and facilities are nice, tidy and clean, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the location is simply fantastic. For us, this stretch of Rua Beach was the best beach area we found on Sumba. Beautiful soft sand, a long sandy beach and great for swimming, including around full tide. After travelling around different parts of the island, we really appreciated just how beautiful this location is. A special mention must go to Santos, our host, who was amazing. He was always available to help and could arrange just about anything we wanted. Nothing was ever a problem. You can organise a little local fishing boat and go fishing, hire scooters or a car, arrange transport and explore the surrounding area. There are also other places nearby where you can go for meals and sunset drinks, although I would definitely recommend having some form of transport so you can explore properly. What really made Rua Beach Resort special was the atmosphere. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and helpful, and it just felt like a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Sumba. We stayed at several four- and five-star properties during our trip, but Rua Beach Resort was our favourite overall experience. Sometimes location, people and atmosphere mean far more than the number of stars beside a hotel’s name. Highly recommended. We would definitely stay here again and will be back!

It is a three star Property however the atmosphere was great the only thing the bathrooms were three start but it was comfortable and clean

L'hotel è ben tenuto la piscina è stupenda e le camere carine, letti comodi e bagno un po' spartano ma la doccia è calda e la pressione buona. Il ristorante offre una buona qualità in quanto il gestore è italiano ci siamo trovati molto bene e ci tornerei. La spiaggia è bella anche se la balneazione è un po' difficile, ma in quasi tutta Sumba dato che il mare è agitato e più adatto al surf. Lo staff è molto cordiale e si preoccupa della soddisfazione del cliente. Altamente raccomandato.

Overpriced for what it is. Our family has travelled through Sumba for a week so we have a good feel for costs and standards. We payed less for better at other places on our stay. Pros - Great location. Polite staff. Food was clean and good. Pasta was very good. Nice pool.

Cons - not well maintained and is run down. Biggest issue for me was the mattress. It is not fit to sleep on with the coils poking into me. it needs to be replaced. 3 hrs sleep the first night. 2nd night I used 5 layers of beach towels to try to improve it a little. Suggest the management try sleeping in it for a night. Given it is such a key part of your stay it ruined my sleep for the two nights. There is no management here so no one to greet you or explain anything as the staff have very limited English. In one of our rooms the AC didn’t work for the first 24hrs and was fixed on the second day with a $20AUD discount. Would suggest rates should be adjusted accordingly.
