Sometimes the rooms are to far

An atmospheric hotel with a true African vibe, fantastic situation, excellent refurbished rooms, and helpful staff. They took good notice of my message regarding our mobility issues and helpfully gave us a room close to the communal areas with minimal steps. The beds were huge, comfortable (amazing pillows) with high quality bed linen. The bathroom towels were white and fluffy, like new. We love that the DL has character, unlike some of the newer hotels in Livingstone, which could be in any part of the world. It has amazing sunsets views, and this time we sat over sundowners watching a herd of elephant crossing the Zambezi from the island opposite - magical!
We know the DL of old (our daughter and son-in-law were married here) and we feel the extended decking outside the bar area is not in keeping with the rest of the hotel design. It seems a huge area now with random tables and not too comfortable chairs which makes it look a bit down market for this hotel. Maybe some planters and more comfortable seating would help break it up a bit. We did find that there was a shortage of staff in the restaurant for dinner (maybe as it was a Sunday evening) and our food was slow to arrive, and our first choice starters unavailable. We were also most disappointed at breakfast the next morning when there was little or none of the hot buffet left, and clearly not being refilled, likewise pastries and fresh fruit salad, despite us arriving just after 9.30 and breakfast service not finishing until 10.30. We did manage to order bacon to be cooked to order and brought to our table, but we would have liked more choice left, especially we were flying on to Jo'burg, and then London, that day and had expected to have a good meal to see us through the long hours until the main flight.
