Hotel Casa del Marqués

What a beautiful hotel! I felt like I stepped back in time, but with modern conveniences. The rooms and beds were very comfortable - we loved our little covered terrace with table to take our morning coffee! Antonio was the best! He helped me park the van, then took our bags and gave me excellent recommendations for restaurants around town and also for our travels outside Santillana. The next morning his smile greeted us at breakfast and later served us the best gin and tonics!

I could have used specific driving instructions to find the parking area in the back - it was very difficult to find.

Good size room in beautiful small historic property. Lovely character filled sitting rooms and a quaint bar. Front desk staff (Eva) was delightful and helpful. Parking was onsite and secure and easy to enter and exit (paid). Lovely rear garden. Very peaceful.

Staff were all friendly and helpful. Hotel is beautiful, full of character and centrally located. Parking was available in the hotel car park. Parking in Santillana del Mar in August was difficult so being able to park at the hotel was very helpful. We visited the Museo de Altamira but had to queue in the rain for nearly two hours for tickets on the day. We should have bought tickets online in advance but they were sold out in August a week in advance. We were told that 3000 timed tickets would be available on the day from 9.30am but there only appeared to be one person on the desk selling tickets so it took a long time! Museum was worth the wait. The timed ticket is for entrance to the replica cave (Neocave), you can visit the rest of the museum before entering the Neocave. We also visited El Capricho de Gaudi in Comillas. It is well worth visiting but you need to buy a timed ticket online in advance to visit the house.

Santillana del Mar is beautiful but in August it is too busy with visitors. Our rooms had skylights which could be opened and steps were provided to see out but there was very little to see. Not enough electrical power sockets or USB sockets in the bedrooms. Bedrooms were quite dimly lit. Breakfast choice of food was limited.

Great location right in the centre of town and the hotel is very nice if quirky and the staff are very pleasant

Air con didn’t work or was controlled by the hotel when it came on , rooms are noisy with little sound insulation, there is no restaurant in the hotel at all so not sure how this gets 5* for facilities
