The Village Inn

Perfect location for what I needed, and as others have mentioned the cafe opposite is lovely. Area is quiet, safe and friendly. Staff were friendly, room was made up every day with clean towels and more tea/coffee etc.

Single room only has sky lights so I only went in my room to sleep as felt claustrophobic. Mattress was quite lumpy. Shower area smelled of mould, the hot tap leaked and the fittings were rusty. Lots of noise from the pub, though fine once it was closed for the night. Not very accessible, during pub closing hours you have to use the fire exit and its fairly dark.

Staff were friendly, the location (for us) was perfect

The rooms were noisy, both from the bar as well as a weird, loud, humming sound overnight. The rear access via the fire exit which needed to be used between 11.30pm and 12 noon was unsafe. Linen bags blocked the exit, anyone could access it from outside and the gate to exit was off it's hinges.

No breakfast but the cafe across the road was great. The room was good and the pub it's self was great. Staff very friendly.

We stayed two nights, the first night food was excellent could not fault it, second night not so good we both sent food back. Not sure why this was very unfortunate

The bed was comfortable and the room nicely decorated and renovated, eg the exposed old oak beams. Well-located to go to lots of local sites, eg Alnwick and Seahouses.

When we got there, there was an unbelievably loud and penetrating noise from the room next door. The staff didn't seem to have a lot of clues about it (seemingly from the toilet) but fortunately did have a spare room to move us to; it was a Sunday, so nothing more could be done even though we could still hear the noise slightly. Monday night was Trivia Quiz night in the bar below. We could have participated from our room. We could hear every question. One of the later rounds was music, which was so loud it made the floor vibrate. It also went until after 10.30 pm, so pretty unreasonable. We'd read other reviews that commented on it being noisy but thought that it cant really be that bad; it is! They probably shouldn't try to operate accommodation.
