Raicho Onsen Inn

What a gem! On the bus leaving this place I was already checking to book it again. Didn’t want to leave! Being in a guesthouse that follows some guidelines and try to have less impact on the environment is sooo good. Their energy is renewable, they care about their carbon footprint and are practicing circular economy. The private outdoor onsen is the best I’ve seen in 3 years in Japan, staff is very friendly and attentive and the surprise shuttle service was a big bonus. The room has some touches that makes it more comfortable than most places in the area. The bagels served at breakfast are yummy! I will definitely be back to explore the area in different seasons.

The atmosphere was very authentic, the Onsen was great, and the area is amazing. Recommend the mountains e-bike in the area.

The staff were wonderfully welcoming and helpful, taking the time to explain every detail of our stay. The location is stunning, set right in the Japanese Alps. The interior of the house and the shared areas is filled with love and passion. The private onsen was a real highlight and perfect to enjoy as a family. Our traditional Japanese-style room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and the shared restrooms were kept just as clean.

Our only minor note is that the tatami in our room had a slight smell - possibly just due for replacement. We're no experts, but having stayed in many ryokans, this was only the second time we've noticed it.

Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, good facilities and some food and drinks for sale. Very Japanese experience due to futon beds and onsen. Hiking trails and activities nearby.

Quite expensive for a backpackers hostel, notceasy to reach with public transport.
