AS Monreal del Campo

We cycled 3ks from monreal del campo to this hostel & did not regret it. A great place to stop. Hostel is above a 24hr service area. The room was clean very quiet & had a terrace. Friendly staff. our bikes secured in side. Dinner of chicken & vegetables was very tasty. Breakfast in the morning was light for 5.50eu, could of bought arrange of extra food if we wanted, we enjoyed the buzz of this diner area after staying in quiet empty villages on the EL Cid, good a.c

Ideal for overnight stop on our way through Spain.

It was everything we needed.

Perfect location for us on our travels. Lovely staff, managed with goggle translate. Allowed dogs.

The room itself was fine, however......

The place outside is completely neglected. Rubbish everywhere, and dirty. Check in, an ordeal. I sent a message asking if the reception was open 24 hr as I was hoping to arrive around 23hrs - Late when I made the booking! I arrived exhausted, after midnight ..... No-body at the desk, no info/sheet/indication of what to do at the desk, 'if you arrive late'. As it is a motorway stop and the whole area was still 'open' (the door was open, and I believe the petrol station too... pluls I could hear people 'busy' in the area, so, shouted out 'Hi anyone there?' politely. A guy came. In a nutshell, he came to the reception and immediately made me feel as though I was 'messing them around', "arriving late"! I tried to explain, and I mentioned 1) that I had sent a message ahead regarding late arrival and 2) thought I'd seen reception was 24hrs?.... he was not at all interested, didn't bother to check for any / my message and just kept repeating - "reception is open 8am til midnight" ... I was really shocked. I thought for a moment he was going to refuse my custom! I found this all really upsetting and disappointing. I was exhausted, had sent a message explaining I'd be late. all for nothing it seemed. As a guest/client, it's not what you need after hours and hours on the road. I had been driving for hours on end, was very tired and the motive for my trip was stressful enough without all this. BTW, I checked the messages the next day. I got an Automated reply as an answer. But no one had bothered to answer my original, first message.
