Victoria Park Lodge

Location brilliant for bowls. Breakfast choice good.

Booking time for breakfast

Great location and lovely family run hotel.

Bit of noise from an adjoining room at 2.30am - not much the owners can do about this but the walls must be very thin as we could hear their conversations.

The cleanliness and decor of the establishment. The owners were friendly and polite and inside the property it was quiet and peaceful. The room was cleaned every day without having to ask and the bathroom was replenished with shampoo and shower gel every day.

The breakfast etiquette. For a start, the exact time of breakfast, offered in half-hourly slots, had to be negotiated. Once in the breakfast room, everything seemed rushed. Coffee was poured out first (I prefer it at the end) and we were asked, "What would you like for breakfast?" but no menu was presented to us. On the first morning I ordered bacon, egg and mushrooms (guessing at what there might be)! That was available but it came on a cold plate whilst I was still eating my cereal and was nevertheless put down on my table, forcing me to gobble down the rest of my cereal. We were also asked whether we wanted white or brown toast - and would we like "one slice or two?" A bizarre way of offering and serving breakfast! Why not bring a filled toast rack to the table? I wondered what would have been the response if I'd asked for three slices! Everything felt hurried and we were on holiday, not staying there for business purposes! Cheap jams and marmalades in little plastic pots were available but nothing savoury, such as Marmite or peanut butter. Disappointed!

It was passable, the bedroom needed to be refurbished as the furniture looked tired, the breakfast was good and staff friendly

The en suite smelt of bad drains, it smelt really bad which made us feel worried regarding cleanliness
