La Thomas Wallace House di Pietroburgo è una delle case storicamente più significative della nazione. Il 3 aprile, il presidente Lincoln ha incontrato qui il generale Grant per l'ultima volta. Pietroburgo era appena caduta e attesero notizie della resa di Richmond, mentre discutevano i piani futuri per un'America riunificata. Mentre Thomas Wallace era stato un alleato del presidente Lincoln al Congresso, sua moglie era cugina del tenente generale confederato Abrose Powell Hill che era stato ucciso in battaglia il giorno prima. Sebbene colpita dal dolore, la famiglia diede il benvenuto al presidente Lincoln e fornì posti a sedere per lui e il generale Grant vicino alla porta principale, dove si erano conferiti per ore prima della resa finale di Richmond. A parte la Wyatt House, tutte le case sul lato ovest della Market Street, una volta animata, erano state demolite tranne la Wallace House. Costruito nel 1855, l'imponenza duratura è al tempo stesso impressionante, invitante e caloroso. Elencato come un "Registro nazionale dei luoghi storici in America", i soffitti a volta di 12 piedi e le finestre della casa offrono spazi aperti e leggerezza in tutto. Anche le camere sono chiaramente di un'altra epoca, ma i letti e le sistemazioni sono nuovi, moderni e confortevoli.
La Wallace House si trova a pochi minuti da "Old Towne" Petersburg, dove negozi e ristoranti boutique sono numerosi e diversi.

The beautiful old house was as presented in the listing and pictures. We enjoyed a very nice, quiet weekend soaking up the ambiance of the property, listening to the radio on the record player with family and a couple of friends for a nice, unplugged weekend. The upstairs master bedroom with attached bathroom had the best hot water for a shower. Very close to old downtown. We explored historic Petersburg shops, historic sites, bakeries, tea/coffee houses and restaurants.

Easy access to get in on arrival. Host was very responsive with good communication. Beautiful house with a history you could feel. Quiet location and a very comfortable stay. My wife was a little upset with me for spending the money, but once she walked in the door she said it was well worth it.

Everything about this property was great! My father is a huge history lover and he was so tickled at the historical significance of the property. We had ample space as a family to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and of course Thanksgiving Football using the TV (which was a nice added amenity). The property manager was very responsive to any inquiries/requests we had which definitely helped ease the stress of making sure our holiday meal was great!

This remarkable house gives you a feeling of its history as soon as you walk through the door. It's decoration covers many of the ages of the house from its inception in 1855 through to the early 1900s. Despite the feeling of history all around you, the Thomas Wallace House is a comfortable place to stay. We highly recommend it to all.
