Ye Olde White Harte Hotel

The dinner and breakfast were both very good. We were a party if 9 walkers and found the accommodation good value .

Sharing bathrooms was not great but ok for our group

I was cycling across Essex without a proper sense of where I would get to. The people at the Olde White Harte were immediately responsive, replied letting me know that there was a room available and that there would be somewhere safe to store my bicycle, which was all a huge relief. I arrived pretty late but the staff kindly made arrangements to make sure there was still food for me - a supper which, I should add, was absolutely delicious (plaice and apple crumble!) - and were generally very friendly and helpful. Finally, I would add that the location of the Olde White Harte is absolutely perfect - right in the centre of town, beautiful views of the river, and a very pleasant atmosphere with locals drinking outside / having dinner. I would absolutely recommend to anyone who is visiting / passing through.

The beds in the twin room that I was in are not massive but they are comfortable. A number of the rooms use a shared bathroom but it was made absolutely clear to me that that was the case so it wasn't a surprise.

Fantastic place, olde and quirky, in an ideal location overlooking the Crouch. It’s clean and food is great

Location

The room was very small, we didn’t even have a chair to put our clothes on. Not a singles hanger, nothing. The bathroom was shared with other rooms. This was mentioned in the description of the room when we booked, we later realised, but we somehow missed it. We assumed that for the price we paid the room is a normal hotel room, with an en suite. Also, there was no hot water in the shared bathroom. The bedding was clean but the room itself wasn’t.
