The house was really good in that it had an elevator and 8 master suites. Plenty of room for all 15 of us. The grill outside was in very rough and dirty shape. We had a lot of issues with ants in the kitchen and some plumbing issues. Several of the doors leading outside either didn't lock or were difficult to open.

Reviewer Comments: The main problem we had with this property was that the stove worked VERY POORLY. Took over an hour to boil water. Needed to allow over two hours to prepare dinner as only one of the gas burners provided much heat. We called about this issue early in our stay and then again after several days. A maintenance person was sent out only to inform us that he did not repair appliances. No further action taken by rental company. Also, the ice maker in the kitchen freezer did not work, requiring us to buy ice from the store which then melted slightly on way home and froze in a block. Again, we reported this issue to the rental company but were informed by maintenance that they did not work on appliances.(A recurring theme!) We did buy some ice trays to make some ice, but this could not keep up with the demand. This is a large and beautiful beach house which is made for many visitors - unfortunately, it was difficult to feed those visitors in a timely manner!

The bathrooms were not cleaned well, the pool was dirty, the grill was rancid and there were broken chairs and pool floats thrown over the fence, the sewage pipe was backed up for 3 days - we couldn't use downstairs bathrooms! The property manager was hard to contact and just made excuses. The cleaning fee was returned, but not enough for the trouble we endured. I wouldn't rent off these people again! Keep looking!

So we do have something to compare it to. Some of the beds were in need of new mattresses. I didn't know dish towels were not supplied. They have been in other rentals. Other little thingsBoard games ,playing cards, movies were not provided for our night time entertainment. Update your coffee pots. One dishwasher is not enough for the size of house hold. It is a terrific floorplan for a family reunion. Everybody having their own bath offers comfort and privacy. We encountered several mechanical issues. Upon arrival there was problem with the pool, caused by previous renters they also abused or misused the hot tub causing it to remain too hot for use. The pool contractors were very helpful in helping to alleviate these issues. We also encountered problems with the elevator on 2 occasions, this was especially irksome as it caused two of our elderly family members to leave on Wednesday as they could not safely manage the stairs. Another concern was the loss of the oven due to a heating element. Not a big deal...we will use the grill...We ran out of gas with 12 lbs of tuna that we then had to pan sear! The house appeared clean at first glance but kitchen cabinets and especially the floors were filthy. Outdoor furniture needs to be replaced. The weather combined with rough use have rendered the chairs unsafe and unusable. Virtually every sliding door had multiple pry marks. Whether these were caused by burglary attempts or previous renters that were locked out; these doors and locks all need attention. Property owner may want to consider bath mats or anti skid strips in tubs/showers a family member fell in the tub requiring a trip to Urgent care. Despite all of the above issues, my family enjoyed a wonderful vacation and created beautiful memories to last a life time. We thank you for that! We would not stay at this property but would certainly consider Beach Realty for our future trips.

The most positive was the response time to service issues by the rental company. They were quick to respond when needed. The most negative would be the house needed service throughout the week. We had numerous toilet issues, the house came with no beach chairs (never even occurred to me to confirm this when reviewing the website. It's the beach!) the house is too large not to have dual ovens, dishwashers, and laundry. The location is great as we go to the drive on beach daily. I would use the rental agency again but would not rent summer winds another time. The last negative would be finding hair in the brand new clean sheets after turning down the bed.

The owners have thought of everything especially in the kitchen. This property is spacious and had plenty of room for us all to spread out. The elevator was a welcome amenity as we used it to transport our luggage and other things to the 3rd floor. Sure beat carrying everything up the stairs! And speaking of the 3rd floor, you are in for a treat in regards to the master suite on this level! The pool and hot tub were clean and we enjoyed them both nearly every day. Thankfully, we had the pool heated because the weather during our stay wasn't as beautiful as we had hoped, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time at Summer Winds. The beach is just a short walk away and was easily accessed. Parking was more than ample. I would definitely recommend this property to families looking for a place that is clean, spacious and full of amenities.

We enjoy family reunions in Whalehead and the location of the home to the handicap beach access is perfect for us. After choosing this home for 3 years in a row, this year we feel the home does need some TLC. New carpeting, a working ice machine and new decking are a must. No outdoor table seating either which would expand its outdoor use for meals. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, the home kitchen provides everything you need and we rebooked for next year. Pool guy did not vacuum the pool midweek...that responsibility falls on the pool company, not the owner.

We had 16 adults whom some were from different parts of the States that stayed like last time and all went well, plenty of room for everyone. Close access to the beach and the house provided jjust about everything you would need ( except an electric can opener, the hand one doesn't work either). Our young adults were disappointed that they couldn't make use of the volleyball court due to all of the nasty sand burs but they had plenty of fun in the pool and hot tub. We did have some spiders in different rooms (one in one of the beds) and had some ants in the kitchen but we took care of them with ant traps. Overall no major complaints and nothing to damper our fun had by all. Perfect house for adults needing their own rooms and bathrooms! It could use a lttle better landscaping to the lawn like the other houses surrounding it but a very nice vacation home in all. Happy vacationers over all!!

Plenty of space- bathroom for each bedroom was so nice, and the additional playroom/media room was a great spot for the kids to play and hang out. The pool and hot tub were used daily and the elevator made trips with groceries/multiple babies super easy! The short walk to the beach was super nice as well! Our kiddos never complained about the walk. Only “negatives”: check in process. Our house was done being cleaned by 3pm. We were local prior to check in so we saw the cleaners as they were leaving. We never heard from the property manager that we could check in- which pushes back out check in until 6pm. With so many tired little kids it would have been much nicer if we were contacted once the property was cleaned. That was a waste of 3 hours for us. I even tried to reach out to the company and never received communication back. The house was relatively clean when we checked in. I don’t think the cleaners did a great job with vacuuming or cleaning the walls. We know OBX is buggy but there was dead spiders/bugs on the walls which weren’t even attempted to be wiped down. We also vacuumed the downstairs level as soon as we checked in. Additionally the cleanliness of the sheets- we found towels (clearly from a child peeing in the bed) under mattress pads. So I guess they don’t change mattress pads which is gross. Overall the house was great, I would suggest better communication with check in time and better cleaning between parties.

The house had spacious and appropriately furnished gathering areas and there was plenty to do. All of the advertised amenities were there and working and we used them! The kitchen was great and we were easily able to prepare and serve dinner for 17. The house was a conveniently walkable distance to the beach.
It was our first vacation in Corolla. We found a lot of fun things to do and some good places to eat out. We also want to thank the Corolla life guards and EMT’s who were amazingly helpful and kind when our Dad had a slight medical issue while at the beach.
I chose 4 stars for maintenance and cleaning due to a few minor annoyances in that area. The house was truly beautiful, but as August renters we could see some signs of the wear and tear of the rental season.
