Maison Barbès

The hotel is right on the frontier of the gentrification spreading east from Montmartre, which is why some diversity-fearing guests have left reviews complaining about the neighborhood. The neighborhood is fine. The hotel is just a little ahead of its time (and so are its rates). The Tati building across the street will be redeveloped and then BOOM! Maison Barbés will be idéalement situé. The staff are very nice and helpful. Someone did a great job renovating this hotel. The hotel is beautiful and classic, with spacious showers, clean wood floors, paneled walls in classy colors....

... But they should have installed some sound installation behind those paneled walls. There was noise coming through the wall of Room 105 day and night—knocking, hammering, voices, a television. It started around 6 am, continued intermittently until midnight. There are fancy crystal whiskey tumblers in the room to use as water glasses. Unfortunately they were filthy. When I wiped them with one of the towels, the towel came away with a brown stain. There’s a nice little patio but it’s at the bottom of a courtyard that is not much more than an air shaft, full of exhaust chimneys from restaurants below. So the place isn't quite what the photos imply.

Breakfast is a decent value, substantial enough for a day of sightseeing. Rooms are very quiet and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is good for easy metro access. It's an easy walk up to the Sacre Coeur and the quieter streets of Montmartre.

Nicely located near Moulin Rouge and Momatre . It is a typical French conversion property with six floors. Charming interiors very fitting with French style. A comfortable and relaxed stay.

Nothing to complain about. I would have like a kettle though because they had nespresso machines instead.

The room was super tiny and no where to leave cases so they had to stand upright next to the bed, two people in the room had to be sitting on bed to let other one past for bathroom etc. The coffee cups were small expresso size so you could not make a normal size coffee. The streets outside of the hotel and near the entrance to the metro train station had lots of people selling (illegal?) cigarettes or something in small packets and there were quite a few homeless people living on the streets as well. First day we were told breakfast included but on second day told it was not. The breakfast served at the admin counter and really for the price you pay to stay per night, a continental breakfast shouldn't cost much to provide. Luckily Burger King just next door!
