San Marco Palace

The location is amazing. The room is big although had to request a room change. Good breakfast. Overall for old Venice it is great.

Don’t get the room next to all the air conditioners, they will keep you awake but staff fixed it and gave us another room.

LOCATION is AWESOME. Very close to everything you want to see! Very close to corner food markets and restaurants! It had a private entrance, was located in the heart of the Venice attraction area, literally around the corner from San Marco Palace and the Doge Palace which made it great to go back to when it was hot to relax a bit mid day. Also made it easy to visit in the evening for a nice walk during a different time of day.

The Royal San Marco Hotel took over the San Marco Hotel in between us booking our trip and arriving. The Royal San Marco probably hasn’t had time to update the San Marco rooms in that time. Our room was huge and well appointed, but these are my recommendations- the bed was hard as a rock, new mattresses. The pillows were also the worst pillows I have ever had to use, thin and hard as rocks. The 1970’s blow dryer, please upgrade. The sheets, scratchy. The ceiling paint in the bathroom is peeling. The refrigerator was barely working. The A/C fan was loud. The breakfast buffet was just ok. One other thing, the front staff was perfunctory, a bit dismissive, and not very warm. Of all the places we have stayed over this and many other trips, we would rate them very low on their hospitality. Every question we asked was met with a less than enthusiastic attitude while we remained appreciative of whatever response we got. Some places don’t put the effort in because they don’t feel the need to, maybe because of where and what they offer, they are always sold out, so why try. Its a bad attitude to have or to train their staff to have.

Great location next to the square. Spacious rooms with new bathroom setup.

Beds were really uncomfortable, two beds slapped next to each other and they keep splitting up in the night. Beds also are way too old and hard Hard time sleeping in them
