Retiro do Gerês

Fully and recently renovated with every amenity included. We loved that we could cook a full meal for 5 with enough pots, cutlery, dishes etc The location was great for a short stay in Gerês, offering several 1/2 day trails. Nuno the proprietor was absolutely lovely and relaxed.

We decided to have dinner at the hostel one night and it was just ‘ok’.

Location, comunication

Ac was not working properly and toilet was having some water issues. But both things didn’t prevent us to enjoy the stay

Retiro do Geres is a truly amazing place. It combines the calmness and beaty of the mountains with high quality service, food and accomodation. The personal is friendly and varm and makes you feel right at home. The breakfast is overwhelming. The restaurant is brilliant. The pool and sauna is beatiful. We had a great great time with our kids here for 3 nights while taking smaller hikes in the area around the village fafiao - and we hope to come back again.

The location was fantastic - the view from that window was out of this world and the nearby walk to the miradouro gives even better ones. The dorm was modern, comfortable and really good bathroom with good water pressure. The best for me though was the food, everything I had was absolutely delicious and portions were gigantic (definitely the biggest piece of octopus I've ever had !). The staff was all really nice and welcoming and one of them also spoke french which made communication easier. Appreciated the private parking as well. Pool was not in order, as expected in the winter, but it also looked great (and with a view...) Photo is the view from.the window.

Just to nitpick but not much insonorisation. First night was nice and quiet but when the hotel filled up I could hear everything in the next rooms and corridor so could get a bit noisy in the summer.
