Houseboat Sophia

This was one of our absolute favourite stays on our trip to Europe. Such a fun and unique place to stay. We had both rooms on the houseboat along with other family members. Really enjoyed being right on the canal, opening the large windows and watching all the boats go by! The Prince room was slightly larger than the Princess room but both were very comfortable! Lex was very easily reachable by WhatsApp and sent detailed and clear instructions for arrival.

Es war eine super Erfahrung, auf einem Hausboot zu übernachten. Tagsüber fahren die Touristenboote vorbei, aber morgens beim Frühstück sitzt man in perfekter Ruhe, direkt am Wasser und wird nur von ein paar Bläshühnern besucht. Der Eingang ins Hausboot ist etwas eng und steil, aber wunderschön, mit vielen Blumenkübeln dekoriert. Die Lage ist echt super und auch ruhig und trotzdem nah am Geschehen.

Location was great and the houseboat looked lovely from the outside. It is well appointed inside. Communication with the 'owner' was good.

The idea of staying on a houseboat in Amsterdam was a romantic notion but in honesty we found it not great. Bear in mind we are in our 70s so this might not apply to younger couples. The accommodation is small and quite cramped, although the photos make it look bigger. The bed is raised up and not easy to get in and out of. The accommodation had not been cleaned when we arrived...at 2pm which I suppose was a little early but I got the feeling the cleaner had forgotten to come. And then of course it is not serviced while you are there.
