Booked for two weeks and left the next morning.

Blakeney and its surrounding countryside is unique. We've stayed in Blakeney for many years. We would recommend it highly. It is a glorious part of North Norfolk, close to NT properties, coastal walks in abundance. Summer concerts, local cheeses, great food.

Hollyhocks is sadly a neglected cottage in need of a very deep clean to address the accumulation of grime, mould, fragile lathe and plaster cupboard ceilings and in particular the rotting wooden window frames. It is musty, the upstairs toilet was not fit for use, the free standing bedroom cupboard was so small the hangers were too wide for it. There are numerous faulty extension leads. One bedroom window does not close at all. There are two wall sockets in the 'airing cupboard' one leading though the door to a electric wall heater in the sitting room and another to the freezer located at an angle on two wooden blocks on the airing cupboard floor. The freezer needed to be defrosted before it would hold anything other than the half packet of peas inside. The oven was a no go area it was so filthy. The washing machine and fridge, rusting at the bottom. The microwave was dirty and the cupboard under the sink was unbelievable, damp while housing a large waste bin. The white wooden funiture was chipped and the worse for wear. The ceiling in the kitchen where it meets the sitting room was cracked along its width, paintwork was marked and stained. However after contact with Hoseasons (a sister company?) and the owner we decided to try and make the best of it but finding the stain on the mattress the following morning was the final straw. The owner said cleaners would attend the next morning to 'address our concerns and wipe the window frames' but we knew it would be impossible for them to bring the cottage up to any acceptable hygienic standard. Then we discovered the state of the mattress. It was the last straw and we decided to go home. It made no sense to stay. The owner has now told us the large stain just needed a sponge clean and the mattress has been turned! Hollyhocks is a cottage with the expected steep staircase of a past era. However once you reach the top of the stairs there is a sharp left turn and two small steps.

Cheap doesn't equal dirty or unsafe.

Great location. Lovely traditional cosy cottage which could be so much better.

We booked the cottage as a last minute deal, we thought it was a special offer price and photos looked good. However, when we arrived we instantly saw the cottage was grubby. It's tired, dirty and unsafe. Electrical plug in bathroom hanging off the wall, burnt out sockets on extension cable in bedroom, uneven floor in ensuite (you stand in shower tray to use toilet) and tall cupboard in bedroom rocks forward when you open the door, thankfully you can't use it because it's too small for coat hangers!!! It didn't look like any cleaning had been done after the previous occupants, toothpaste on the bathroom floor, dirty inside fridge & microwave, dirty greasy extracter fan, chipped crockery, mucky oven and grubby cupboards inside and out. We cleaned what we needed and ate out. All the painted furniture downstairs is chipped and grubby, lampshades are damaged or falling off lamps, mirrors are greasy and window sills have black mould. On the positive side, the bedding was clean and we didn't have children with us or we would have turned around and gone home, we left early! It needs a deep clean and maintenance throughout.

Enjoyed our stay but cottsge due a revamp.

Good location in Blakeney. Cottage was available and a good base. Main bed was comfortable and downstairs shower good. The kitchen facilities were good too and the need for a torch very good advice if going out or returning at night.

The cottage needs to be checked over as the decor needs re vamping generally, the bedroom wardrobes don't allow clothes to be hung properly and the en-suite toilet is a nice idea but awkwardly placed to use.
