直島町ふるさと海の家 つつじ荘 Seaside Stay Tsutsuji-so

Well designed with various options for lodging and dining. Our Mongolian yurt was beautiful and comfortable with great air conditioning and firm beds. Wonderful to hear the Setouchi waves and crickets at night. Easy access to bathrooms and other amenities. The included Japanese breakfast was just right and the summer self-grilling BBQ dinner was abundant and tasty. The local bus and free Benesse shuttle to the art museums stop in front if the lodge. A peaceful swimming and walking beach is steps away, leading to Yayoi Kusama’s yellow pumpkin sculpture.

Everything was great! However, there was a loud woman talking nonstop in Japanese at night in the yurt next to ours. Her enthusiasm was my irritation to dissolve. Despite the lodge’s thoughtful quiet at night policy, guests do not realize how sound carries.

The location is a magical place to unwind. If you can, book an extra day in addition to your museum time. Do not miss a swim in the sea. Loved the fireworks available at the registration desk.

A few additional food options would be a plus.

The dinner we had was absolutely delicious! Being so close to the beach was amazing. The coaches leaving from the property were so handy; the staff were so friendly. I will absolutely be back, I can't wait :)

The location is really great! It's perfect for spending some relaxing days directly at the beach.

I spend one night in the camper and one night in a yurt. The camper was really dusty inside and not cleaned well, so I didn't feel very comfortable. It's very very old so it should have been restored to a better shape before renting it. Windows were broken und the fabric on the seats had a lot of stains. The yurt was quite nice and very spacious, so I would rather recommend staying there. You need to pay 200yen for 15min of warm showering, which isn't much but regarding the price seems a bit cheap.
