Hotel Grand Inn

First and foremost this was an incredibly comfortable and inviting room to stay in. The bed was one of the best I've slept in. The room and bathroom were good. The exterior facelift to the old communist plattenbau building is deceptive as the interior was practically luxurious! The staff were friendly and efficient. I emailed ahead that I had a late arrival flight, and when I arrived at nearly 1AM the receptionist was ready and at attention, and even already knew my name. Marzahn is a charming neighbourhood, I enjoyed walking through the suburbs behind the hotel (Marzahner Ch south), I also appreciated the convenient location of supermarkets (1 minute walk to Aldi) and a short 10-15 minute walk to the district centre for good food options (kebab, grilled chicken, phō). I did not use the trams but they appear to be well connected and run for 24 hours, offering a way into the centre if you don't mind the wait. During the day and on weekends you can be in Mitte via S-Bahn in 30-40 minutes.

The hotel is next door to a scaffolding company, which begin making noise at approximately 8AM. However closing the window solves that problem. When I asked for the room to be cleaned the toilet roll was not replaced. A minor detail.

The king sized bed was really comfortable, the shower was actually pretty ok and there was a working fridge and plenty of power sockets, I counted 14 although none of them were grounded. The room size is huge. The price was good though and distance to a private event. But what we liked the most was the laughs we got out of how the state of the whole place was.

The questionable man made white stains on the pillows and armchair, that was disgusting!!! The overall shabby construction of the place, things were mended ghetto style, there were screws sticking out of furniture which could be a health and safety hazard. The noisy ventilation fan in the bathroom. The loud humming fridge which was hard to sleep to. The shower didn't have anything to prevent the whole bathroom from flooding. The pond outside which they advertised on Booking is a completely different state. And every door scraped on the floor when you opened them.
