Wow- this place is just amazing! The house is beautiful, spacious, and well stocked with everything we could need. There was such an attention to detail by the host- quite possibly the best vacation rental I've ever stayed in. There are lots of things to do for little ones including games and books which was wonderful. We loved the soaking tub and the kids enjoyed the yard. The beds were super comfortable. We absolutely loved this house. It is probably the nicest rental we have ever stayed in. It is better in person than in the photos. It has been completely remodeled, with an amazing and very functional kitchen, spacious extra room with TV, games, and table. Lots of room to spread out. All 3 bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The entire house was impeccably clean. It was a cold March week when we were there, but the well-designed outdoor spaces (covered porch, seating area in yard) and spacious, private yard would be fabulous in the summer. There were lots of thoughtful touches, such as the separate, fully stocked coffee and tea bar, and the hand-knit washcloths for our use throughout the house (as well as a gift of 3 for us to take with us!). The only small suggestion we have is that the lighting could be improved/brightened in a few areas. We recommend this house and would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

Nicely remodeled farm house. House is very well maintained. Very accommodating with kitchen supplies. Not to far from town to get a good bite eat.

Multiple deer, with buck antlers in velvet, California quail daily, both adults and babies, lots of birds, variously colored. Also gargantuan mosquitoes in the evening. We also saw a doe and fawn in the stand of redwoods just east of the house and about a mile farther east in a field a bobcat or lynx. The house was perfect for three adults and two children ages 8 and 11. It was extremely well outfitted and attractive and spotlessly clean. The manager was easily accessible and friendly. The pre-visit communications caused worry because they seemed so fussy that it might be uncomfortable, but this worry dissipated during the stay. This house is just a short drive from Arcata and McKinleyville, and a little farther from Trinidad. It has a rural feel, however, and being so close to such abundant natural beauty and fine dining was great. The kitchen and dining facilities (indoor and outdoor) also made it a pleasant place to prepare our own fine dining. Walking or running is problematic on the main road because of how narrow and winding it is, but just around the bend 40 feet from the driveway, turning left, is a much less used road that goes past a park and along the river, and it felt safer for running and walking.

Beautiful home in a quiet area. Great light and very spacious. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space to kick back and relax. It was a great place for my family and would stay there again.

The rental process was easy and the property was beautiful and restful. Our grandkids loved the selection of games, books, and drawing and coloring supplies provided. I loved the gnarled old fruit trees out back and the deer visits. I also loved being outside of Arcata but still close to it. The drive from the far end of West End drive was really pretty and took us past farms, old barns, old fences entangled in wildflowers and through Redwoods. I would love to return again.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The West End Retreat property is spectacular. It is comfortable, well appointed and beautifully designed. I hosted my son and his two children for a week so we could spend quality time together. It was exceptionally clean with lovely linens and towels. The outdoor space was great, and we enjoyed our morning coffee on the side porch. It was conveniently located close to my son's business, Low 'n Slow in Blue Lake. We so enjoyed our stay that we extended by one day which was easily processed by the property management company. West End Retreat feels like a home, and it was a joy to spend a week at "home."

I spent two nights at this farmhouse in July 2022 as part of road trip up California’sNorth Coast. I was very pleased with it and would rent it again. The house is in a quiet and rural area on the outskirts of Arcata. You are only an hour away from Redwoods National and State Parks. (I highly recommend hiking the James Irvine Trail to Fern Canyon!) The house has been beautifully renovated, and was comfortable, spacious, and equipped with everything I needed. I especially enjoyed taking a long, hot soak in the elegant bathtub after my hike. Highly recommended!

So much to love & say about this place from the welcoming bouquet of wild flowers in the kitchen to the warm, cozy feeling throughout the house, inside and out. . Thoughtful details like children’s books from local authors/subjects, well equipped tv/game room, kitchen with lovely morning sun, USB outlets in the master bedroom headboard and interesting art & furniture pieces. Quiet and private, it was perfect for teens to grandparents.

We enjoyed staying in this cute home for a few nights while visiting the Redwoods. The actual kitchen was a bit tight, but there was plenty of room to spread out. My kids enjoyed the game room. It was nice to have beach towels to enjoy, the bedding and bath towels were clean and fresh. I liked the quiet neighborhood and private lawn, felt very safe. The only thing I didn't like was--the master bathroom had a tub in it, right in the middle of the bedroom. The actual master bathroom was quite small and is a half-bath. There was one shower in the downstairs bathroom. If you love baths, this is your place. If not, the showering situation for the six of us was a bit cramped. Other than that, it was a great stay for sure!

Very nicely appointed, super clean, easy to get to from major highway. Impeccable property, this rental had everything we needed for an enjoyable, comfortable stay!

Everything you need to the last detail and a fantastic location for all area activities on a quiet road with plenty of privacy. Highly recommend this for family stays or a romantic getaway.

Everything about this property is charming, well appointed and obviously deeply cared for by the owners. This place was exactly what our weary souls needed; beautiful grounds, fun loving dogs, tidy and comfortable house close to the river and beach- a complete package.

Simply amazing. Peaceful, serene, nook sand crannies for each person whether a quiet candle lit soak, a fun game filled space, a tucked away writing desk in a back bedroom, or family meals. Every detail was lovely, inviting, and well thought out. Such a treat and a gift to enjoy this space and place.
