We were so excited to stay at such a beautiful history-filled place right in the heart of Old Town. The restoration of the Venetian era home was expertly done and managed to keep the feel of the time while having all the conveniences of modern life. It was very comfortable - the beds slept great and the rainfall shower was so relaxing after long days! Domus Clodia was incredibly convenient to walk anywhere in Old Town with so many restaurants, shops, bakeries, ice cream stores, scenery, and sightseeing right outside the door. Everything was well appointed and clean - we even arrived to find the owner had left some delicious homemade baklava from his shop across the way! They also provided us with quite a bit of groceries, which we unfortunately didn’t have time to use but appreciated all the same!It was such a special experience to run into the owner at a coffee shop on our last day and have him buy our coffee - such a great example of the lauded Greek hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again some day!A few notes for those who are unfamiliar with Greek life and specifically Old Town Rethymno: the driving in that area is very limited as the roads are so narrow so be prepared to be dropped off/picked up a few blocks away and pull your luggage! Also there is no toilet paper flushing in Greece so I recommend bringing pet waste bags to use to keep down odors. Also try Bougatsa for breakfast - you’re welcome!!!
