A beautiful hotel that is so colorful and artsy—we loved it! The only negative is the bathroom. It just had a curtain to pull for privacy for the tub and sinks, which was strange and inconvenient when your spouse gets up in the middle of the night and doesn’t want to wake you. The bathroom also had a one foot gap in the wall, allowing any one who was standing at the door to the hallway to look in. Why do so many hotel bathrooms not have complete privacy with normal doors from the bedroom? Other than the bathroom issue the hotel is fabulous, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location safe and so fun with restaurants and shops just steps from the hotel.

Safety is of prime concern in South Africa, and African Pride is in an island of security in Melrose Arch along with a group of stores, a mall, and many restaurants. An easy drive to Rosebank Sunday Market and the Apartheid Museum. An hour to Maropeng and Prretoria. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed the hotel very much, it was lovely inside and out. I especially enjoyed walking through the hotel doors and finding such a wonderful night life. There were many places to eat, and a live screen TV on the square made it fun to watch the soccer tournament in wide lounge chairs. Walking around the area was very entertaining as there were many sculptures and storefronts to check out. I would stay there again!

The staff at this hotel are wonderful. Before I stayed, I requested an airport transfer and they delivered. Check in was welcoming and efficient as was check out. The location of this hotel is great. It is in a safe area with restaurants surrounding and the Melrose Arch shopping centre a short walk away. Rooms are large, quirky and lovely. The only criticism is that the grout in the shower cubical was mouldy and the hot water took forever to appear. Rooms could possibly do with a deep clean and a little more maintenance but I recommend this hotel for its welcoming staff, quirkiness and location.

This trip was my 1st solo experience and I must say I had an amazing time. Mr. Dingaan made sure my trip went smoothly and took the extra mile to ensure I had the most amazing experience. Mr. Dingaan was an absolute delight and I'm very thankful our path encounter. He was the highlight of my trip. I can't thank him enough. Also, all the other hotel staff I encounter was very kind in helpful. From Ms. Pretty at the Front Desk, The waitress Tanya, and many more names I cant recall. I hope to visit again one day soon. I will refer this hotel to my friends and family who plans to visit South Africa in the near future.

We had a two night stay the hotel was absolutely lovely, staff were excellent, rooms were super clean and well equipped, with comfy beds. The breakfast was excellent with a lot of good options for every tastebud.

This is still my favorite hotel to stay at in Johannesburg. I have been staying there since it opened multiple times per year. The staff is amazing. Service excellent. Rooms very comfortable. I do notice, however, that the hotel is in need of a little update, as it is showing a little wear. However, I already have my next reservation in.

Staff are always friendly, courteous and helpful. I would like to point out specific staff, but they are all incredibly professional. Sinethemba at the front desk and Jabulani in the waitstaff/restaurants were especially outstanding.

We checked in, went to our room and checked out. The room was ugly and dirty. They are still trying to charge us for that night. We moved to the other Marriott Melrose Arch up the street. It was excellent.

It’s a nice hotel but I lost interest when I fell getting into the pool(no railing) and busted my knee open and they could not get to the 1st aid kit. Why would they put it in a locked box and not have the key

This is my review as a hotels.com gold member who travels a lot around the world.
The hotel it’s self is great, the staff are always friendly and always helpful.
The location is why I always stay here. It’s in Melrose Arch so it is super safe with shops and lots of places to eat.
I have never stayed in the summer and although they do have generators for load shedding the rooms get hot very very fast. Since load shedding is not something that is going away anytime soon I would suggest bringing a small usb fan because the room will get very hot very fast.
That and the fact that the bar closes at 10:30 are my only issues with this hotel.
It’s a great jump off hotel as you hop around the country. I love it and will be back!

We were looking for a nice hotel in a safe area, to spend 24-hours while waiting for our international flight. The Melrose Arch area was a pleasant surprise, and we felt safe to walk to restaurants and stores. The hotel is beautiful, the common areas are inviting and there were fresh flower arrangements everywhere (very classy). The room was super spacious and tastefully decorated. The breakfast buffet was artfully arranged and delicious, and the staff was extremally friendly and attentive. What a great place to stay!

The staff is very friendly and accommodating; in fact, they are absolutely amazing. The property is beautiful and nicely appointed. However, I was disappointed with my double room, which consisted of two twin beds. They where child size beds and simply not acceptable for a Marriott property.
Nevertheless, I would stay again. Oh! The food at this property is awesome!!

Booked this hotel and walked in to check in. I was told there would be a $87 fee to check in “early”. I asked what time checkin was and it was in 19 minutes. I was confused and clarified they were trying to charge me to check in 19 minutes early and they confirmed. I asked if the room was even ready for me and she said yes.
Bring that the hotel is a higher cost hotel already I was disgusted with them for even suggesting to charge me to check in less than 20 min early. They could have either just told me to wait 20 or let me check in early at no fee.
Checkout I asked if I could checkout an hour later and they did the same thing- told me the room was to be cleaned immediately upon my exit unless I paid $70 for another hour. I declined and sat at the pool area which was right outside my room instead. The room was not cleaned in the following 2 hours so they could have let me have a late checkout.

It’s an interesting hotel concept in a great location. They were just opening after being closed for two years so were a bit rusty still in terms of services and procedures. But worth a visit.

If it was not for this Covid-19 junk, we might have had a better experience. For this, we will have to go back. The menus were really small, the service limited and I cannot blame the hotel for that.
