Only downside of the property was the closeness to the busy main road and the frequent back yard fires by the neighbors.

It is a small resort which is lovely and very relaxing.

Love the location of this property, just across the road from great snorkelling, shops next door and bus stops outside. Peaceful side of the island, will definitely be going back...

We really enjoyed our stay at Black Pearl, rooms are well equipped, great swimming pool and the eating guide compiled by Rangi is absolutely fantastic, and we had excellent dining experiences. Rooms are dated, so don't expect modern appliances or tv, however who needs all that when you're holidaying in the beautiful tropical paradise of Rarotonga.

Very friendly owner and staff made everything here run smoothly offering advice on car, scooter and bike hire; places to eat; local music and entertainment. Provided reef shoes and snorkelling masks for free. Enjoyed use of the pool too. Cross the road to a lagoon to enjoy snorkelling and sunsets.

Phenomenal customer service by booth Rangi and Twin. When A taxi was not available for a certain time I needed a transport, Twin volunteered to drive me complimentary.

Lovely stay at The Black Pearl! Rangi and Twin at Reception are pleasant, helpful and we appreciate all they did to make our visit so enjoyable. Service is fantastic here! The location on the island is perfect--especially if you like to snorkel across the road. And, enjoy the pool when you want to cool off. A small, comfortable place to stay for a relaxing get-away.

We have stayed there before and like its location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Units are large and bright and airy. Only thing letting it down is that its getting a little tired now and needs some upgrading in terms of bathrooms/toilets.

Great location for sunsets, snorkeling, relaxing, easy to catch bus. Excellent service and care. Rangi and the team were amazing and made sure we were picked up (in the middle of the night with flower lei!) and taken to our room, and given a surprise and welcome fruit platter. She arranged car hire for us for the day with no fuss. There was some parking for rental vehicles at the front of the property. Next door was a takeaway, petrol station, ice cream and grocery store which was handy. The beach across the road provided good snorkeling at high tide and excellent sunset. About 10 mins walk anti-clockwise direction was an even better snorkeling area in a marine reserve, Beautiful! The room had all you need and was very spacious, and the pool area was nice outside. There were a few families there too, and it seemed ideal for them. Friendly dog and chatty chickens! Would happily stay again. Thank you so much!!

We liked the quiet atmosphere and the proximity to the café and supermarket next door and the friendly staff who were very helpful.

Would definitely stay again! The service was great -- they even let us do late checkout so we didn't have to burn time before our flight. The pool area is nice, and the grounds are well thought out. Just to manage expectations, this isn't a luxury hotel, but it's great for a beach vacation. There was a clothing line outside behind our room for hanging wet clothes, and a kitchen as well. Plus, the room was really spacious. It's a particularly great place for families, although we traveled as a couple and had a nice time too. Just a quick note on wifi -- wifi is expensive, which is standard in the Cook Islands (from what I could tell). Anyway, it ended up giving us a more relaxing stay, but it's best to be prepared! As I stated in a previous review, I love the Black Pearl at Puaikura. This time was no different. Comfortable, quiet and great staff. Another plus (for me) was running into another returning guest whom I met last year. You cannot go wrong here.

Nice quaint hotel close to the beach and convenience store. The pool is great, and staff are very helpful and friendly. Just don’t expect much but this is a really good budget accommodation for a family. Spacious rooms and close to a cafe, ice cream shop, and bike rentals.

Our room at the Black Pearl was huge and amazing! Do note - this hotel is across the street from the beach, so you won't have direct access, but there is a gorgeous saltwater pool on site. Bigger than many apartments, this was a 1 queen + 1 single bed, for a family of 3. It had a sitting area, large kitchen with microwave and 2 cook tops, indoor dining area, and outdoor patio/deck. The room was very clean and comfortable, reception was very friendly. Clothesline out back was very handy for drying swimsuits, etc.

Great Location, especially for snorkling, handy to everything .. Our host (Rangi) was the most helpful,friendly person ever ... The only negative was that the Facility did not have Breakfast as advertised by Hotels.com, not their fault I think. Highly recommend.

Lovely accommodation, very friendly staff, great place to stay

We only stayed for one night. Bedding were very clean, but everything else were not quite as clean! Lots of dust on the bed heads. Microwave was not working. One of the three towels has dirt on it. Not much of privacy as anyone could look straight into your room.

Upon arrival we were greeted in our room by several lovely displays of flowers, which was very nice. Our room was nice and clean and only a few steps away from the pool, and the beach was across the road. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had our towels changed several times during our stay. We noticed in the portfolio on the room table that the lodge had recently won a local award. With bus stops right outside the lodge it makes getting about very easy. The property was very quiet during stay with people only staying a few nights. Most of the time we had the pool and loungers to ourselves. They do have Wi-Fi hotspots, but we never used. The only little flaw was bad communications between the lodge and our transfer back to the airport.

A quiet holiday apart from the hens and roosters that frequent most of Rarotonga. Simple accommodation that was clean, with friendly staff, that did not cost the earth. Close to the beach, but then the whole island is close to the beach.

Lovely staff , friendly and helpful. Will arrange anything you need. Even came back after hours to let us in our room! Free snorkel gear, pool, BBQ area. Rooms very clean everything you need with own facilities. Within this price range is great value for money - Highly recommend and would stay again.

I came back to Rarotonga after 30 years away for my nephews wedding. I had forgotten how really beautiful the island is, (Cleaner than Bali and closer)If you have personal connections with people it's so much nicer because the hospitality is wonderful.
