This is a lovely, historic hotel, in the heart of Belize City, near the ferry port. I enjoyed the home-style ambience and the well appointed rooms.

We very much enjoyed staying in this historic property. The reception staff were especially helpful in arranging recommended reservations for excursions and restaurants. Wonderful place!

Beautiful, historic home converted into an Inn, no elevator/lots of stairs. The property is less than a mile from the Ocean Clipper Ferry from the Cayes - we walked but there were cabs available outside. Our room (#15) was generous in size with 2 queen beds and mosquito netting (which we luckily did not need), a large bath with tub and a long vanity top, A/C and ceiling fan, closet and safe, dresser and fridge. Our shower did not drain well but a quick word to the front desk and it was resolved same day. There is a pool with 3 sun decks. Stop by the front desk for a voucher to use at the cafe on the ground level. The offerings weren't that extensive but the coffee and yogurt were delicious. The location is a bit out of town but everything we had read was don't be out at night on foot. There were a couple of restaurants nearby (Treehouse, in the Fort George Hotel) and Secret Garden, a few blocks down the street. I am not sure Celebrity Restaurant is worth the hype.

Decent place if you must stay in Belize City before or after water taxi to the Cayes. Few restaurants nearby and city didn't feel very safe to walk around at night. Very close and easy walk from water taxi.
It's a stretch to say the rooms have a water view. Property is off the water and many trees between it and the beach. Our partial view room was better described as a small "peek-a-boo view".
Old historic building maintained with much of the original character...including sloped floor in our room.
Neighboring house had loud dogs barking during the night.

Outside of the fact that there were stains on the sheets and the 3 neighboring dogs at a personal property barking in all hours of the night, the hotel rate averages the same rate as the hotel across the street and next door. It’s apparent that city power outages are common as they had emergency lights in the rooms but no generators while the other hotels do. Unacceptable to charge the same rate. Furthermore no one was on property to explain what happened - allegedly security was on property but somehow nowhere near the front of the hotel when we tried to find out what was going on.

This hotel was fine. The air conditioning worked and the rooms were clean. There biggest issues: No on site dining (in January 2024), the place next door has very noisy dogs, and the area surrounding the hotel is rough. That said, it is a good option for budget travelers hoping to stay in Belize City since it is close to the boat facilities to San Pedro and Cay Culker. There are two higher quality hotels next door, but they are significantly more expensive.

This place is a gem! A very unique property with historical value and maintained with all the modern comforts. My mother and two adult daughters shared a double queen room and we had so much space with a bay window seating. The pool and outdoor seating areas are beautiful and the continental breakfast was a nice bonus. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this for a stay in Belize City.

I enjoyed my stay at The Great House Inn! The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The location is excellent and easy walking distance to the two water taxis, to multiple restaurants, and the Baron Bliss Lighthouse. Both of the tours I booked offered pick-up from the hotel also.
My room was big and comfortable with a ceiling fan and an efficient AC unit. There was a porch swing outside my room with a partial view to the Caribbean Sea.
I would definitely stay here again!

This is an amazing place to stay. Very nice room. Very walkable. Easy 10 minute walk to water taxi terminal. Super nice staff and great continental breakfast.

Fine property in the nicest part of Belize City- around the hotel felt safe. Very friendly and helpful staff, colonial style old fashioned rooms with decent beds and clean bathrooms. Pool is new and nice (looks like a restaurant is also being built). Not a ton of dining in the city but a couple good options close by. Decent value for price. It’s nicer and better located than the cheaper Ramada, and a touch under the price and amenities and qualities of the Raddison next door- a nice middle ground. Bring earplugs for the Belize City dogs and birds at night and early morning.

We stayed 2 nights before heading to the islands. The Great House was clean and charming with great character. Loved all the wraparound porches. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Close to the water and easy walk to the water taxi.

Reminded me of a bed and breakfast style venue which was nice. The only thing that bothered me was hearing people up and down the stairs and talking outside my room since the windows just have shutters and there were tables and chairs outside my window on the porch.

Hotel was good overall. Nice & helpful front desk. Breakfast is okay nothing fancy. Rooms are clean. Has AC and they bring iron when needed. Also has a safe inside room. Hotel location is great, couple of minutes to the ocean, and about 10 minutes walk to center of Belize city. Proximity to restaurants and lounges. The bad thing is that the area itself is very sketchy. Not really for tourism a side from few nice hotels and restaurants. Area is dirty and at night becomes dangerous. We are advised not to walk at night. A seemingly homeless person harrased. Thankfully nothing bad happened but we did not feel safe. In my opinion use your time in Belize city to transport to excursions and nice islands but not spend time in city.

Nice place, everything was good, room was clean, a little dated, but great location, staff was great and friendly. No restaurant or breakfast, small pool. We went across street to the Radisson for breakfast. The Radisson was very run down, happy we stayed for less money at the Great House!

The hotel was good. This was my second time there. However, this time, they had redone the floors (i.e., varnishing), and the room needed to be ventilated. All the fumes created a very nauseous/headachey feeling. The staff didn't offer to switch after mentioning it either. Furthermore, we asked for a cot, which they provided, but it was wet....making it useless.

The hotel is lovely and very unique. Much more charming than a typical chain hotel. Although the shower drain was clogged and our fire alarm started beeping in the middle of the night. There were also logs of neighborhood dogs that barked consistently, but nothing some white noise couldn't help. The staff was friendly.

I stayed for 2 nights at The Great House Inn and had a lovely time. Great staff who were very helpful. My room was large and comfortable and very clean. Convenient for downtown and for cruise port. No complaints at all.

I had a great experience at the Great House Inn. The staff was AMAZING! The accommodations made me feel at home. While the Great House is in the city, it's snuggled into an area near the sea wall. It is within walking distance of the water taxi, public transportation, and shopping.

It was very noisy and the front desk attendant basically left after we checked in! The beds were super uncomfortable. It also says they provide airport shuttle they do not. This place needs major upgrades.

Hotel went beyond my expectations. Room was nice and very spacious and more than comfortable for two people. Bathroom was also spacious. Service from the front desk was excellent.

For the third time this hotel had given my room to another guest and never notified me ahead of time so this was the last time and I went across the street to another hotel. They have an excuse every time that "Another guest extended their stay" but they fail to understand that the proper thing to have told that guest was "You can stay longer but you have to vacate this room because someone else has already paid for it." Instead they chose to inconvenience me. They have friendly staff and the rooms are nice, just be aware you might not get the room you booked and paid for.
