We had an absolutely incredible stay at Authentic beauty, Comfortable home in Central Kyoto. The house was beautifully appointed with every amenity we could have possibly needed, making it a perfectly equipped home base for our family. Our host, Yoshi, was outstanding and always proactive, ensuring we had a smooth and welcoming experience from start to finish. The location was fantastic, and a huge highlight for us was having access to the bicycles—our 17-year-old absolutely loved exploring the area on the bikes! While other reviews mentioned the nearby tram line, it was never a disturbance for us at all and simply added to the authentic neighborhood charm. The house is spacious, cozy, and perfectly located near sights, restaurants, and transit.

The only minor downside we experienced was the motion-activated lighting on the stairs and upstairs hallway, which was a bit too sensitive and would shine into the bedrooms when someone walked by/up the stairs at night. Aside from that tiny detail, everything about this property was absolutely perfect. It was comfortable, authentic, and genuinely our favorite place we stayed during our entire trip to Japan. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto!

The house is very cozy and charming. We felt very happy to be there. The host went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and made us feel very welcome.

The beds are a little thin on the floor so my old body woke up a little achy.

Location was very good, central and close to regular buses into Kyoto centre. Neighbourhood was quiet as far as other residents were concerned. Sizeable accommodation with quirky layout. Traditional style of house was appreciated. Yoshi was there to welcome our family and offered assistance so making us feel welcome when we arrived.

Although we were aware of train noise, this was worse than expected with 2 trains every hour from around 6am until midnight. There was no air conditioning on the upstairs hall seating area which made it impossible to use in July with outside temperatures around 36 when we visited. The futons were not substantial and not that comfortable. Other futons we used elsewhere in Japan were better. The TV was a small PC monitor. No carpets.
