Te Anau Central Backpackers

I cannot speak highly enough of Te Anau Backpackers and Hamish who runs the place. It is so clean, from the room to the communal areas, the kitchen and the bathrooms. The beds were comfortable. The heating was topnotch. The kitchen had a variety of utensils and cutlery, multiple burners and large fridges for food storage. The bathrooms were spotless. The staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and helpful. Hamish was so easy to talk to and addressed any concern promptly. It is incredible how efficiently he runs this place. It was great value for money. I had a lovely time and will use them again when in Te Anua.

I can't even think of one thing that I didn't like.

Everything that hikers want. Hot and good showers, laundry machines that work, helpful staff. A fire place for getting cozy. It’s no surprise we meet great people there.

Great location and rooms were comfy.

The lack of cleanliness of the lichen. Staffing was a big problem - we sat outside the kitchen at 5.30pm as it was still closed off. The staff member was trying to clean but they didn't have a clue. We saw them wipe up the floor with a dish towel! She couldn't even load up the paper towels in the ladies bathroom correctly - they were place in vertically!
