Thank you to all staff for everything.

Room had taps that didn't work in Bath. Very slow filling toilet. Cracked tiles, gap in ceiling, and no soap dispenser in bath area. No bedside lights, no tray for tea so left scattered on desk. Biscuits and bottled water only provided on first day of stay. Carpet stained. Stair carpet very worn and approaching dangers. Masking tape from painting left in situ.
On busy days breakfast buffet a bit of a nightmare. Had to ask for basics like plates, butter, bread and yogurt. No sign of management supervision. Staff however were nice. One Asian lady was excellent in the circumstances as she was left to serve the whole dining room for a considerable period herself.
Reception staff nice to deal with but each time we sat in reception were heard discussing problems with staff, gas leak(?!) , inability to contact managers and costings.
Food was good. Old part of hotel lovely as was Garden. Work was going on in the Horton bar.

Perfect location, rooms were a little dated but had everything we needed. Breakfast very nice

When we first arrived the lady on reception seemed disinterested and was not very friendly. The bed was very comfortable, but unfortunately the creaking and noise level from rooms above prevented a good nights sleep. The room chair was covered in brown stains and the window sills covered in cobwebs. The shower which was over the bath was great, but for some unknown reason there was no shower screen or bath curtain, which meant the bathroom got flooded with every shower. The old building is gorgeous and the garden fabulous. Breakfast was good and the staff in the breakfast room were great.

Beautiful hotel from the front. Nicely laid out inside. Although it only had just reopened sort of felt like it wasn’t quite ready or they weren’t sure how the processes worked.
Comfortable night.

Possible the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. Blood stained bed sheets radiators paint chipped away and dirty carpets

Lovely historical building but other than that not much going for it

Friendly staff, lovely setting and good local facilities. Comfortable, clean room

Lovely spacious room. Think we must have had an upgrade as it was more than just a standard double room. Bed was huge and very comfy. Had a sofa in the room too. Breakfast was lovely and amazing for only £4 each! Overall thought it was really good value for money. Hotel has lots of character, free parking (through a very narrow opening) and about half the price of nearby Premier inn and a much nicer stay. I expect the prices will go up soon though once everyone hears it’s back open again.

I've stayed in this hotel before, but it seems to have had a management change (no longer Mercure). I reported a few issues: such as there being no milk in the room, the shower dispensers being empty and the wifi not working. Also, the cleaning staff entered the room before I'd checked out. I believe all of these are easily fixable with staff training. I hope to return.

As at Jan 15th 2024 the hotel has just been refurbished - only one week reopened. Excellent welcome, really goof breakfast, lovely staff. My room was very quiet, comfortable, good shower, though could have been a tad stronger. Only downside for me was the lack of Wifi out of the bar and breakfast area (i.e. not in my room - a disappointment tent, as I'd intended to do some work in prep for the next day). Careful driving needed through the passage to the parking area - only just enough clearance for a Qashqai - proximity alarms on most of the way through. The hotel is pleasant though, and right next to the Cross that features in the nursery rhyme! I wish them all the best in getting re-established: they're well placed as a base for anyone wanting to visit all sorts of attractiopmns, be it Oxford, Warwick, Coventry, Silverstone, Bicester, the Cotswolds, and they've even got a railway connection that'll take you into London or Birmingham.

Good location in Banbury and it's an OK hotel but highly dependant on which room you get. In the old building soundproofing is non existent and floor boards creak so loudly that you will be woken every time someone in a nearby room gets up or walks around.

It was used to be a old ancient times hotel in England, but it renewaled. Clearn and lovely, but I liked the style of the old England types.

We stayed one night. All staff encountered during our stay were welcoming, friendly and keen to help. Our room was very comfortable, nicely decorated and the bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean. The menu in the restaurant offered a good range of high quality and very tasty dishes. We will happily stay here again should the opportunity arise.

The property was very tired - many marks in carpeting which felt unclean. The garden was basically worn grass. Our room was spacious; bad was comfortable. I booked through Expedia, which indicated breakfast was included, but it really wasn't. Banbury is not a lovely town. I recommend staying elsewhere.

Beautiful hotel from the front, the back part of the hotel very tired looking and a little dirty in places. We stayed in the back had a lovely garden view, room was a good size, lovely large bed. On first glimpse it was decorated well and clean. Some furniture was tired looking but overall ok. Problems we had was tv bad signal and control not working properly. Bathroom was clean but water pressure was terrible, im 5ft 7 and could only just get under shower my husband couldn't fit under so had to have a bath which took forever to fill. The windows in the room and wall underneath were moldy. I did notify reception on leaving and they took pictures and have reported it to management.

Property was beautiful old and quirky. Staff were lovely. Garden was a joy to sit out in. Breakfast great. Hand soap in bathroom please. Will return

Whateley Hall is a lovely old house but with all it's associated creaks so don't expect silence as people walk outside your room. Also being the old house it is, it was built around mid 17th century, there's no lift. Something to consider if you have mobility issues. The room itself is a decent size and very comfortable but I found myself sliding off the edge of the bed if I'm just sitting near the edge as they appear to use something like a duvet under you. Breakfast is plentiful with a wide choice. Fresh fruit, usually apples, are available around the clock next to reception and while waiting to be attended to we were brought coffee (or tea if you prefer). All in all, a delightful stay in a delightful town.
One last but significant point is that the access to the car park is through a narrow stone lined passageway. Drive carefully if you don't want your wing mirrors scraped.

Pleasant hotel that needs a refurb. Good location.
Payment policy is shocking as payment was taken without communication or permission. Staff dismissed the questions about this.

The hotel is under staffed. Never answered calls to the front desk. Had no service in restaurant because of a wedding that day. Room was spacious but really worn out. It looks much better online than in person.

All staff were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay, we were there as part of a murder mystery dinner and the food was also very good. The hotel is looking tired however all requirements were met.

The hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment. It would have been very helpful to have known this in advance. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in my case which meant this stay did not meet my needs due to the excessive noise and commotion caused by the building works.
Even so, the areas I saw were much cleaner than you might expect with a major refurbishment going on. The staff I encountered were friendly and generally as helpful as they could be.

Stayed for a total of 5 nights, requested my room be serviced twice at reception. Finally got done on the third day. Front of hotel looks nice but youll probably be staying in the dorm at the back. Half the pumps were empty in the bar both nights i tried the bar.
