We stay here a few times a year. The bell hop is always very friendly. The registration person is usually good but nothing stand out- this time , the person was very friendly, took time to really listen when I answered his"how was your drive here?". Then he gave us a corner room- a nicer room than we have ever gotten; a late check out and a couple of nice comments about how great the hotel is and SF in general.
That is all it takes in the day to make a guest feel welcomed!!! not hard but we do not find it in most hotels we stay out.

High levels of service every step of the way, from valet to check-in to Top of the Mark where they had live music and dancing on Saturday. Great weekend getaway for us!

This was like a throwback in time to when service was top notch. Everything about our stay was wonderful. We were attending an event at The Masonic Auditorium and this is the perfect location from which to walk there and back. We enjoyed the Top of the Mark as well as room service and breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby. Each experience was perfect for us with attentive, polished service. The service extends to the front desk and the valet. Felt like SF from many years ago. Can’t wait to go back.

We had gone into our room the temperature was 64°. The bellhop tried to fix the thermometer it would not work for another hour and a half we then had a electrician come up he couldn't fix it he had to call someone else up my husband finally had to go down to the front desk to get us to another room which he moved our luggage with them later that night had room service at 11:30 and 1 hour later I was throwing up the food so I had food poisoning so the stay wasn't very nice I have contacted them and the roundabout way they want me to fill out the claim form which we were told by the night clerk that he would compensate us the next day which I was so sick I just wanted to leave so I paid and left so very unhappy would never go there again

The hotel is old and it shows. Tone of service is less than ideal. There are better choices and value found elsewhere.

We need more stars to rate a stay at the mark hopkins. Takes us back to a time when service was an art form and we I people were proud of their professions. Room was elegant, clean, public areas classic, and the top of the mark is literally the top of the city. I’d live there if I could.

Staff and service was excellent from front desk, bell hop , in room dining and Top of the Mark.
The rooms are spacious with nice amenities albeit the room , furniture and hallways could use an upgrade. All a little “tired”….paint peeling from the walls etc. Location is terrific and the lobby is stunning. Two things I didnt like, no in room movies and no gift shop. Other than that, it was great.

My first concern is the safety of the residence. You are 100% safe at the Mark.
You do have to take a cable car to get to it, unless you are driving.
The Mark is a time piece, now 100 years old. You might find more spacious rooms in other areas, but you will not find the charm that is here.

Iconic hotel. Veteran staff who are proud of their work and eager to be of service. Top of the Mark is still lively. The hotel could stand to be refreshed to preserve its standing, esp as the Huntington is renovated.

Love the ambience of the hotel. Made us feel like we were in a Hallmark movie especially since we stayed around the holidays. The only critic I have is the lack of soundproof in between rooms. It is an older hotel so should probably be expected. Just know that if you have a loud neighbor like we did, you will hear all the details of their phone conversation and music selections. Other than that, the rooms are comfortable, service is excellent, and we will bring our dog the next time we stay so we can include a picture of her on their pet MVP board! We very much appreciate the Mark Hopkins welcoming pets of all sizes with no fee!! Respect hotels who do that. Reflects good character.

We were travelling as a couple visiting our daughter that lives on the NE side of Nob Hill. Our first stay at the Mark. Overall, a classic hotel. We appreciated the entry and lobby experience. Our room on the 11th floor was nice with a great view and the bed and room very comfortable. However, the bathroom is tiny and the sink area is ridiculously small, so a trade off there. The public corridors are rather dingy and the corridor is filled most of the time with cleaning carts and dirty room service trays, so kind of like navigating a minefield during the daytime. Hence, 4 stars instead of 5. Oh, and the Top of the Mark needs a refresh. The architecture and decor are super generic for such an expensive destination. The breakfast at the restaurant is unremarkable and would rate the hotel 3 stars if just rating the restaurant. You are buying the history and the location here, and there is no replacement for that.

My new favorite hotel, the staff were so welcoming and friendly and the location perfect. We paid for an upgrade to a suite, it was sublime, roomy with a view. Loved the Top of the Mark, had a great time there. Breakfast was very very average, would skip that for sure.

Perfect for a city get-away. Rooms could use some touch ups but overall had a charm and old Hollywood vibe.

Great staff/employees. View was great from room & the rooftop. A little far to Union square etc….hills were not for me. Taxis & Lyft/Uber convient

It’s an okay property in a nice neighborhood. The service is 3 stars. The rooms need updating. 3 stars on those too. I’ve stayed at nicer Intercontinental Hotels and expected better from this property.

Heat not functioning in our freezing cold room. They tried unsuccessfully to fix this. Begrudgingly moved us to another room. This all after midnight. Won’t comp our room offered free breakfast. Great inconvenience in the middle of the night - room charge should be refunded.

Moved here after one night at a 'budget friendly' hotel and so glad I did. Loved the location, room size & comfort, professional yet friendly staff, and the holiday decor. Would not hesitate to stay again or recommend. Staying here turned my whole San Fran experience around.

A fabulous location, with the best view in town. Magnificent Nob Hills and a historic hotel. The best way to see town is with the San Francisco Cable Car that stops outside the hotel.

Amazing experience. Wonderful, caring staff, friendly and welcoming. Room was great, comfortable bed, awesome water pressure.

It is a great old classic hotel with impeccable service. Unfortunately San Francisco is a city whose infrastructure and crime situation is falling apart. Even on Nob Hill the city is in decline. However, at the Mark Hopkins we felt safe and very well cared for. If we must come to San Francisco again, we will stay there.

Property is old but mostly pretty well cared for. For example, we had replaced double pane windows, but there had clearly been some sill rot in the past, that some bro painted over. Staff very pleasant. Top of the Mark definitely the highlight, even though only serve tapas. Again staff makes it. Immediate neighborhood is awesome, but doesn’t take much walking to see it deteriorate once you descend non hill. Recommend the hotel. Great beauty rest black mattress.

No good value. Hairs from the guest before still in the bathroom.
No mineral water in the room, for $610 per night. Breakfast very poor. No Buffet. No extra drinks or beverages.

Great customer service. Room was comfortable. Slept great. Not much noise. Soft pillows. Soap smelled amazing. Clean and luxurious. I was able to leave my luggage after checkout to go to conference. Items were safe and secure. Neighborhood looked clean with great night life. Only thing was breakfast which I did not ask about. Overall excellent and plan to return.
