It was difficult to use my key to get in and out of my room on the 5th floor. It wouldn’t scan and I had to force the door open and shut. It made me question the safety and security of my room at times.

The location is amazing. Room was very clean and updated. The bed was absolutely horrible. Pillows are old and beat up, mattress needs to be replaced. The bar closed at 8pm on Monday.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. A quick getaway. The hotel was full yet very quiet. The bar was hopping. The hotel was clean, comfortable and newly renovated.

Very nice hotel. It was clean, modern and also has a decent restaurant. Front desk staff was efficient and very friendly.

Overall, our stay was great! Stayed 2 nights for admitted student day at Iowa State. Mattress could definitely use an upgrade and the air conditioner was very loud the time that it ran. Be careful in the shower as it's super slippery!

Really enjoyed staying at Gateway hotel. Room was clean and welcoming feel. Check in staff was friendly. We did miss free breakfast, as it is quick and easy way to get on the road again. With that being said, there is an on-site restaurant, we did not try. Looking forward to staying here again.

The on site restaurant ran out of several items.
The wrong room was given to me at first. I had to go back to the front desk to get it all figured out.
Overall everything was clean, good service, but with the room mix up and the restaurant out of stuff you might want to call ahead before booking.

This hotel has completed renovations since the last time we stayed. Rooms are clean and uncluttered. Beds and bedding are extremely comfortable. We didn’t get to the pool area, but I’m assuming it is as nice as it was a year or so ago. Restaurant was convenient for a quick breakfast buffet. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was adequate. Coffee was good and hot.

The hotel is ok. But dirty. Lots of hotels in Ames do yourself a favor and book one that employees maids. I never saw one the whole stay and didnt get my room cleaned in between nights. And my friends had a dirty room upon arrival.

Aweosme hotel! Very welcoming, clean and comfortable! Only downside is the breakfast buffet was cold and not very good quality food.

Daughter and I came for a weekend trip and everything was perfect. Our room was nice and warm which made it extra cozy after driving for an hour from airport. It was one of the coldest weekends and to go into the hotel and our room with warmth was amazing. If I’m ever in Ames, Iowa again I will for sure stay here again.

Front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. Room was very comfortable and pleasant. Wish they did a small continental breakfast in the morning to be included with room but that would be my only slight complaint.

There were no housekeeping services for several days (12/23-12/27). No notice given prior to confirming reservation. Changed rooms several times due unclean bedding and toilet. Trash was not removed from the hallway for several days. Very disappointed.

The property and it's surroundings are excellent. I would especially like to compliment the front desk associate Michael. He made the entire stay very pleasant. If you can please pass our compliment along to management.
