Mercure Bukhara Old Town

- Very friendly and helpful staff - Large and comfy bed - Very large room - Good AC - Good WiFi - Large balcony - Surprisingly quiet for the location - ATM inside the hotel - Mini market directly opposite the hotel - Very quick (but expensive), same-day laundry service

- Hot water in bathroom not particularly intuitive - Location is walkable from city centre, but get a Yandex during the day when/if it's hot

The architecture and the interior of the hotel were lovely - I particularly enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard when it was too hot and sunny outside at midday. Breakfast was wonderful with a wide range of fresh local breads, dairy products, fruits, etc and attended by very friendly and helpful staff. I stayed 5 nights all together, and all the people at the hotel from the receptionists to room service, waiters and souvenir shop keepers treated me very well, so thank you so much! All tourist attractions are easily accessible by walk or by Yandex, getting to and from the station and the airport is easy.

The reception/lobby staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool, sauna and steam room area was quite nice. It was very quiet when we used it mid afternoon. We didn’t eat at the hotel restaurant, but did go up to have a look as we considered having our 1st dinner there, but it was almost empty and looked a bit sad. And there views from the terrace are pretty average as you’re just outside of the old historic centre. The room we had was large and very clean. The window is tiny though.

After visiting the city, I regretted booking this hotel as it’s a little ways out of the old town and we ended up taking a Yandex every time we wanted to go into the old centre. It would have been nicer to stay in one of the old merchant homes turned hotel in the historic centre. I also thought the hotel was a bit overpriced. If you’re looking for an international hotel chain then it’s a nice stay but after visiting I would have definitely preferred something more authentic.

The staff was amazing, helping us with everything we needed, including how to get around in Uzbekistan. The rooms are comfortable and clean.
