Ad Deir Guesthouse

Located a short walk from Petra Visitor Centre. Comfortable bed, spacious room with fridge.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sadam, the owner of the Ad‑Deir guest house in Petra (Wadi Musa). It’s a wonderful, cozy, and comfortable guest house. Everything is clean and tidy. Within walking distance is the central entrance to the Petra museum complex. Saddam advised me on the best way to see everything in two days, helped with transport in Petra, and with finding a hotel in Wadi Rum. I didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast because I didn’t have time — I left early in the morning to go back to Petra. But there’s a great restaurant nearby with excellent local food. Everything is delicious and quite affordable. I recommend the Ad‑Deir guest house to everyone traveling to Petra. 10/10.

Ownership was very hospitable. Proactively reached out to ensure everything was good for me. Saddam is very knowledgeable about Petra, and offered great advice to help me plan my 2 days there. They offered a packed lunch option, which is very helpful and generous in size. (Also a dinner option, but I chose to try nearby restaurants.) It's a cozy, small guesthouse that is a great deal for its category, and budget-consciousness travelers (like me). It's in an excellent location, a quick walk to Petra's main entrance.

Personally, no complaints. But, I warn those with mobility issues that there are steps to climb to reach the entrance.

The guesthouse was fairly close to Petra. Which was a positive.

The owners cousin was a waste of space. All he did was lay on the couch and play with his phone. The owner was quite good, in that he took only one day to replace the flexible shower hose which was clearly broken and kept falling down. Whilst annoying, at least he fixed it for future guests. The water pressure is not great, and the drain was blocked so the shower basin filled up when you showered. In the end I opened the drain to see it blocked with soap scum and hair. The guesthouse is not on the road, but up a 40 mt track with steps and up a very average 40 meter track, which in the dark is an issue. Breakfast is not included (as per the ad), but it's unusual given they offer lunch boxes and dinner for a price. Also they don't take credit card. whilst this is stated in the listing, when you are on a long trip you you don't remember details like this for individual bookings. Another guest the same night had the same issue, but luckily he had USD in cash to pay. The bed was comfortable, but after a hot day in Petra you need a good shower, which this place did not have, and certainly not a good shower when the shower head kept falling off. To his credit the owner fixed it within a day. This is a simple lack of maintenance and should have been obvious to the owner and his cousin when the shower head would have been always on the ground. I am sure the owner will respond as he seems always to react negatively when guests raise any issues in reviews.
